United Way’s Gun Control Goons Now Blame (wait for it) …. the NRA

The gun control goons, incensed after UWW acknowledged Otero County United Way’s gun raffle was operating within the organization’s bylaws, their licensing agreement as well as New Mexico state laws, are continuing to lash out like a toddler who doesn’t get their way. In the interview, Miranda, who is a representative of the United Way in Santa Fe, made some pretty inflammatory accusations.

“These weapons (including assault rifles and sniper rifles) have no business being on our streets, they’re war tools designed to kill as many people as possible,” Viscoli told the radio host. “Unfortunately, the raffle was reversed so United Way is now sanctioning the raffle and in addition to this, we found out yesterday, that United Way actually okayed 10 other firearms raffles throughout the country and we feel this goes directly against their licensing agreement, bylaws, and their mission statements.”

I stopped when they became unsupportive of the Scouts. I found a Scout council in Idaho who were pleased and probably very surprised to have donations coming in from Kalifornia. It was even matched by my employer.

Yep, after I found out the president of Nashville’s UW was bringing down $375,000 with another $100k in benefits in 1993 I stopped giving to them.

UW's poor treatment of the BSA is the initial reason I stopped making donations. The last time I donated to them, my Pacific Telephone District Manager demanded that every manager in his department hand him a 1% of gross pledge card to United Way. Just about as coercive as anything I've experienced as an employee. Made leaving his department for greener pastures a very easy decision.

That same manager screwed me out of a week's pay too. I told the payroll people to bundle all of the floating and national holidays that I had worked into the days between Christmas and New Year's Day. Use or lose it. I came back to discover they had misappropriated my earned paid days off and caused the "use it or lose it" holidays that I had worked to be lost. The prick district manager "doesn't take payroll errors". Frankly, I should have sued the a$$hole for theft of a week's pay. Getting out of his department was a priority.

It bothered me that they would not support the Scouts, but had no trouble with groups such as "Friends Outside".

Worked for a big United Way supporter back in the 1970s. It was in West Virginia. The national YWCA (a United Way recipient) came out anti-gun. Needless to say, the fund raising went down the toilet. Panic set in; managers were afraid for their jobs and then came the pressure.

I got called into my boss’s office. His boss was also there. You MUST give. It’s going to affect your performance review. My reponse was: “I’ll donate when they change their position”. Long story short, local chapter had to disavow the national stance. And apologize. And they still missed their targets.

Embarrassed the United Way, and they got zero from my entire office.

Personally if it came down to it, I think the NRA could “take” the UN.
