When in my teens, I was a BIG Red Sox fan, and my hero was Ted Williams.(I’m female, BTW) When my friends were at the beach, I was on a blanket with my portable radio, listening to the games. My friends were boy flirting, but not me. I was absorbed with Ted Williams. The fans always booed him as he was sorta standoffish with him, but not me. I worshipped him. I even wrote a letter to Jim Britt —the radio announcer, about my fascination. I don’t know why I didn’t write directly to him.
And, I almost met him years and years later in life when we were on vacation salmon fishing in New Brunswick Canada. He had a place nearby, and our host called him, but he was away. I don’t know what I would have done if I actually met him. I would have been speechless actually seeing him.
Thanks for this thread and the pictures.
Good evening, Mayor, and thank you for today’s sustenance for body and soul.
Ready to take on the new week?
LOL!!
Hi Kathy and yes I’m ready.
Did nothing all day today
Even baseball is no longer pure, IMHO in the era of big salaries and big egos.
I no longer watch or follow any Pro sports, just remember good stuff from my childhood.
Our random scripture this morning just happened to be:
Amos 9-11: "In that day I will raise up the booth of David that is fallen and repair its breaches, and RAISE UP ITS RUINS AND REBUILD IT AS IN THE DAYS OF OLD......
I found it quite ironic!
Here’s a story told about Williams. Probably apocrophyl (is that the right word?)
A roookie pitcher was on the mound and williams came to bat. The first pitch was right on the outside corner or maybe a cat’s whisker off the plate. Williams took the pitch and the umpire said ball 1. The pitcher glared at the umpire.
The next pitch was on the inside again right on or just off the black edge of the plate. The umpire said ball 2. The pitcher came down off the mound and asked the umpire, what was wrong with that pitch.
The umpire took off his mask and said, son, Mr. Williams will let you know when it’s a strike.
Howdy, LUV.
Perfect scripture for today!
Been a good day here. It was comfy enough to take Hubby’s aunt outside to sit while we visited. Haven’t been able to do that very much this summer.
Came home and did a little much-needed weeding in a couple of flower beds before feeding the cats and us.
Now watching “102 Minutes That Changed America” on History.
How was your day? Do you have tomorrow off or are they going to put you through the grinder this week? LOL
Heh...
you must not be distracted tonight. LOL
Great story, Ted Williams was a great baseball player and American Patriot!
We need new leadership and it ain't Hillary!
Glad you could get his aunt out of “jail” for a bit. The air gets so stuffy in those places! Even the nicest ones need fresh air!
I’m off tomorrow. This week is a bit better/easier than last week. Then next week we leave on our trip. WooHoo!
Oh...and a WOOO HOOO for PRO...because we were both distracted! LOL! I’m watching “The Pilot’s Wife”...part of my 9-11 CD that is a must-see for me every year. Next up is the CBS Documentary. Hard to watch but necessary...
What and where are you going on your trip?
It certainly isn’t her! She’s just manage to ruin this year’s remembrance by her drama.
It brought out a lot of good in people for a while. It’s just a shame that didn’t last.
Nope, she definitely ain’t it! She never needs to step foot in the WH again. EVER!
Yes, she loves sitting outside when it’s nice and I hope we have a long stretch of decent weather this fall before winter moves in. The nursing home she’s in is a nice one and never seems that “stuffy”, fortunately, but she enjoys the view from the front porch where we sit.
Nice of them to give you a break this week. They’ve been a little hard on ya with all those EARLY mornings.
So your trip is next week, is it? I know y’all are going to have a blast.
I haven’t seen “The Pilot’s Wife” but I believe the CBS one you mentioned is the one done by the two young French men? That one is excellent. CNN had that one earlier tonight with some new stuff. The one I’m watching has a little new footage, too.
We are going to Missouri to take my MIL to a school reunion that she goes to each year faithfully...by the way of OKC to see our kids. Yay!
Then in early October, I get to go on the TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot. Looking forward to that as well! :)
Yes, that’s the one! I wanted to post the video of it, but couldn’t find it anywhere. i’m trying to upload my copy to YouTube, but this is the first time I’ve tried this and I’m not entirely sure I’m even uploading the right one. LOL!
We’ll see. whatever is going up is long and will take a while to find out what I did...or didn’t do. Thank goodness I’m off tomorrow! LOL
Yep...we’re all looking forward to the trip. Her niece will give her a perm....she’s the only one that can do it “right”. And she has a very close friend in OKC whom she’ll spend the night with and I know they’re both looking forward to that!
My friend...the “cat lady” who talked me into these brats....will “baby sit” for me by coming by to feed them and let them in/out at various times during the day. They like her. :) It’s something she promised to do if I’d take them on. But...honestly, I love the little monsters! <3
