107 gas stations, distributors identified as possibly receiving high ethanol gas
KOKH Fox 25 ^ | AUGUST 31ST 2016 | AUSTIN PRICKETT & BILL SCHAMMERT

The number of stores feeling the effects of a bad gas recall has tripled in the last day.

The Oklahoma Corporation Commission now says 107 gas stations and distributors have so far been identified as possibly receiving high ethanol gas. Nearly 450,000 gallons of fuel from Magellan Midstream Partners may have as much as 30-percent ethanol. The fuel was distributed between Aug. 23 and Aug. 29 to dozens of stations across the state.

FOX 25 checked in with several stores affected by the recall, all of which said their fuel had been recycled out either Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

Now the process is underway to find who got the fuel and figure out what happens next for consumers who may have it in their tanks.

Gas with 30 percent ethanol can be corrosive and ruin small engines like motorcycles and lawnmowers, Oklahoma Corporation Commission spokesman Matt Skinner said.

Tony Gaglio, service manager at Christian Brothers Automotive Warwick, says he's already had customers come in worried about the faulty fuel.

He says people need to watch out for rough starts, rough idling noises and check engine lights.

"If your car isn't enjoying the drive, your'e going to see some lights on the dash," he said. "Your vehicle isn't going to run properly, it's not going to fire the cylinders properly."

According to Gaglio, it's costly for a mechanic to drain a fuel tank and get rid of 10-15 gallons of fuel. He says it can cost $400 to $600.

Shut down the damn ethanol racket and jail the bio fuel racketeers.

I agree.

Only ONE candidate proposed to do that during the Republican primaries.

THey’ll sooner (no pun intended) force everyone to own a flex-fuel vehicle.

Don’t doubt me on this, it’s coming...if Hillary wins.

Trying to stretch your fuel supply with ethanol, is like trying to stretch your ground beef supply with filet mignon...............

Thankfully, one of our large local retailers carries ethanol-free fuel.

It’s all I use.

The old sets of wheels gets the corn free.

I’ve ran it in the 16 Tacoma and saw no real difference.

Neither of my cars seem to mind it, but the fuel injectors seem to need cleaning a little more often. But, lawnmowers don’t do well with it at all.

Gas with 10% ethanol can ruin lawnmower engines.

What I do know is you better not let stale 10% ethanol gas stay in your lawnmower tank over winter or you will have to get the carburetor cleaned out in the spring. One of my lessons learned the hard way.

Ted Cruz proposed eliminating the ethanol mandate.

Donald Trump did not.

Facts. They’re pesky little things ...

Sell the customer non-ethanol fuel.

Give them a jug of ethanol measuring 10% of their purchase.

This will solve some of the problems.

My Datsun Pick-up had a fuel tank drain plug.

Cost me 5 minutes to drain my tank.
