Sounds about right.

Boy, looking back, I HATED IT.

I finally caved in and paid for the express bus.

No AC? That would explain this pic.

“The AC is one of the constant problems with cars along with the door mechanism.”

It’s the vibration. Knocks things loose.

I’m thinking there used to be a way to measure “hot”; something about degrees.

“Inside a hot car on the No. 1 line on Sunday, Kelvia Rosario was worried that her brother’s birthday cake was going to melt. Ms. Rosario, 33, of Washington Heights, had set the cake on a subway seat, along with a picnic basket and a jumble of balloons. It was too much to move, so she waited it out on the warm car, her frustration growing.”

Somehow I can’t work up much sympathy for this lady.

I wonder if they have the same issues over seas. Continuous welded rail isn’t new technology. If they do it in rural WV for short lines for coal, it should be in use for subways.

I’m not convinced vibration is the issue. Car parts and assemblies are sourced internationally. Before Bombardier bought Adtranz their stock was in the mid $30s. They’ve never broken $5 since if IIRC.

Low buck equals cost cutting somewhere.

How do we know this?

No actual temperature readings were noted?

Was it over 105 F. and 30% RH?
What is the exposure time?

Obviously you’re far too young to remember subways BEFORE air conditioning. Ceiling fans, vents and opening the top half of windows were all there was back then.

Of course, that was before man-made global warming.

Awwww, poor snowflakes. According to Accuweather: temp in NYC now- 78, heat index 82. Here in N.O. area- temp 91, heat index 113! The snowflakes will have crisp fall weather in Sept and Oct- we will STILL be sweltering! But then- these were the ‘victims’ of “Superstorm Sandy”, that put a few inches of water on the streets of NYC. Traumatic!

“The LIBS would have us experience the catastrophic events of France a few summers ago, when a record heat was the cause of thousands of people...”

Let’s not forget the liberal paradise of Chicago:

For three horribly sweltering days in the summer of 1995, Chicago endured the deadliest stretch of heat ever recorded in the United States. The death toll ultimately numbered an estimated 739. Most victims were elderly and infirm and lived in the city’s poorest neighborhoods...
