The black guys I sometimes play ball with I call Al, Prince and Dave. If they are neighbors, clients or potential clients I call them Mr., Miss or Mrs. Whatever unless asked to call them by first name. If I don’t know them and we meet I call them young man or lady, sir or ma’am. I refer to them in conversations where their race is pertinent as black people.
The “others”, the thugs, the trash, I sometimes in anger or frustration refer to with the big expletive. They are not the same people. And they’re not the ones with whom I’d ever be having a conversation about race anyway.
My “White Privilege” had me working for the last 25 days straight.

Does the New York Times not employed proofreaders? Maybe there is just one key on the word processor that is pressed and automatically unarmed black shot by cops comes up.
Surely, the New York Times is guilty of inciting a riot. They should be held liable in civil court for all damages, and the publisher should be criminally charged.
Note the text below the caption indicates armed, not unarmed as in the headline.
Writer probably knew he’d be accused of inciting a riot, so put it in both ways to claim typo.
