Public university warns against saying ‘you guys’

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual Resource Center at the University of California Davis warns that some “words hurt” — including the expression “you guys.”
That common phrase is among a list of “Words that Hurt” detailed on the public university’s website. The expression “hurts” because it “erases the identities of people who are in the room” and “generalizing a group of people to be masculine,” the website states.
“Sometimes we say words without realizing the impact they may have on others,” it adds. “Take time to educate yourself about language and histories of oppression.”

Oh poor things, did they get their feelings hurt, here they are with an ‘outie’ and they are upset because they don’t have an ‘inny’ poor little things...they need their safe space...
Over there, about a mile, there is a trail, just follow it, it will take you places that you have never been before, and a feeling you have never experienced either (the trail leads to the end of the cliff where they will fall off)...

This is insane. I am a middle aged, middle class white woman and a New Yorker. I use the expression “you guys” about twenty times a day. I use it when addressing men, women, and children. The world has gone crazy.
