Egyptian lawmakers Monday urged Cairo to grant political asylum to US-based Turkish cleric Fethullah Gulen accused of plotting the failed military coup against Turkish President Erdogan, in a move that would further strain relations between the two countries, reports say.
Egypt has refused to condemn the failed military coup which occurred July 15 as diplomatic feud between the two countries plays out.
Egyptian lawmaker Emad Mahrous reportedly called on al-Sisis cabinet to grant Gulen asylum in Egypt as Turkish authorities called on Washington to extradite the Turkish preacher.
[Turkish President Recep Tayyip] Erdogan is giving shelter to hundreds of leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood terrorist organisation and members of other bloody militant Islamist groups, which attack Egypt day and night, Mahrous added.
This was a moderate Muslim country that has become an Islamist dictatorship at the hands of Erdogan and his Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated political party.
In another step to irk Ankara, parliamentarian Mustafa Bakri this week gathered 336 signatures from other members of parliament calling for a resolution recognizing the mass killings of Armenians under the Ottoman Empire as genocide, Qatari London-based The New Arab reports.

It’s a trap.
I don’t think so
The truth will emerge.
Please expand on that theory. Egypt and Turkey are foes.
Maybe I’m wrong. It wouldn’t be the first time.
Headline doesn’t match the story.
Headline makes it sound like this is official Egyptian policy, but story shows that it is merely a proposal by some legislators. Big difference.
I doubt he’ll be leaving Pennsylvania any time soon.
Remember Elian Gonzales?
If true, I support it. After the Egyptian military kicked out Obambi’s Muslim Brotherhood BFF, Morsi, I celebrated that Egypt didn’t join the “Arab Spring” and watch a nation of history go down with others. Bet Obambi and Hellary are having conniption fits over this.
That new caliphate is getting off to a shaky start.
What will the clintons and Obama do ? This character gave big bucks to Hilary’s campaign and the Clinton foundation . He requested a meeting with Obama from Hillary . I don’t know if he got it .
I erred at least 50 times today alone. And I believe that is a record.
My claim to fame is that my posts are so often wrong, a correct statement on my part is worthy of acclaim.
IIRC Egypt also granted asylum to the Shah of Iran after he was overthrown.
Gulen has money, and governmental connections and influence to shield him. He has ties to the IC, and may even be a CIA asset.
Would that have been Anwar Sadat?
What is the IC?
I believe so.
That would make sense.
Egypt doesn’t trust Obama. Safer there than facing extradition. Ever since the bogus ‘Arab Spring’ and his pals the Brotherhood brought mayhem to Egypt.
