cnn ^

The $13-billion USS Gerald R. Ford, continues to struggle launching and recovering aircraft, moving onboard munitions, conducting air traffic control and with ship self-defense. "Unless these issues are resolved ... they will significantly limit CVN-78's ability to conduct combat operations." Fixing these problems would likely require redesigning the carrier's aircraft launch and recovery systems

This ship cost $6 b to design and $13 b to build. The last of the Nimitz-class cost $6 b. We could have three new fully-operational Nimitz-class carriers, and a total of 12, instead of 8 fully-operational Nimitz-class carriers. But, the DoD has to Windows 10 everything.

Still, this thing doesn’t come close to the boondoggle that is the F-35.

We need a President who is interested in building up the capability of the armed forces and who knows something about contracting.

The libs spew this same crap about every new military program. The fact is modern ships, planes and weapon systems are incredibly complex and they need to integrate with even more complex networks of existing systems. They all have problems, delays, etc., as almost any very complex system will.

The fact is, many of them are successfully deployed and perform brilliantly, which is why the US has had a massive lead over all competitors on the battlefield for the past few decades.

Some of them will fail and never see the light of day. Yes, we throw a lot of money down the toilet on them, but it’s the nature of pushing the envelope and doing things that no one has ever done that sometimes you fail. It’s part of the cost of maintaining our freedom.

The military should be held accountable for the money it spends, as should all other parts of the government, but even though it wastes tons of money like the rest of the government, at least the military can say that it produces great results for the money we spend on it. Are there any other parts of the federal government that can definitively say they are by far the best in the world?

This carrier class is brand new and uses electro-magnetic launch and recovery systems instead of steam.

Aircraft carrier in 2016 is obsolete, just like battleship was obsolete by 1939. It’s too easy to sink an aircraft carrier by hailing missiles on it just like you can destroy a battleship in 1939 by launching torpedoes from a submarine.

CNN wasn't around when the USS Jupiter was converted into an aircraft carrier in 1920.
