Is America Ready for a Disruptive President?
Real Clear Politics ^ | July 22, 2016 | Michael Barone

Apple disrupted the music industry; Uber disrupted the taxi cartels; Amazon disrupted the mega-bookstores. Global competition has been disrupting American manufacturing for decades. The inundation of low-skill immigrants unintentionally produced by the 1965 immigration act has disrupted many communities and big metro areas.

Over history, America has mostly been built by disruption. Certainly the Loyalists in the American Revolution thought so. So did the farmers who cheered for William Jennings Bryan's free silver as industrialization was disrupting the farm economy.

It's not clear that this disruptive convention will help him. Trump's managers have disrupted the traditions in place for 30 years. These rules had been: only supporters speak, sessions end promptly at 11 p.m., don't visibly crush dissent, vet speeches carefully. Monday saw a rules rebellion squashed. Tuesday it was controversy over a bit of anodyne plagiarism. Wednesday it was Ted Cruz's ringing non-endorsement, booed off the stage.

But there's another way of looking at a campaign that has not gone conventional wisdom's way. Disorder and disarray work against the party in power. Terrorist attacks and police shootings are not what America thought it'd get in the Obama years.

As tech billionaire Peter Thiel argued Thursday, disruption is a good thing when old ways -- and especially government -- aren't working well.

We just went through 7.5 years of “fundamental transformation.”

Nobody would have believed 7.5 years ago that we’d have to accept that grown men who “identify” as women are women, but we must deny that mass killers who “identify” as ISIS jihadis are ISIS jihdis.

How can anyone ask this with a straight face after eight years of Obama?

Seriously!

The Dems sure know how to pick them.

Carter
Clinton
Obama
Mrs. Clinton (if they had their way)

Not to mention folks like:

Kerry
Gore
Mondale
McGovern

Barone is pro-mass immigration and against protecting American industry from cheap Third world labor.

He is very learned, but everything he knows comes from studying surveys, polls and statistics and trying to pigeonhole Americans into various boxes.

He has missed the whole Trump thing and has no intuitive sense of what the American people think.

I’ll take disruptive (to the status quo) over dysfunctional, disreputable, and despicable (which we already have) ANY day of the week.

This IDIOT doesn’t think that we already have one? Who is this jerk Barone?
Some these people make me laugh, but it is a very sad laugh, because of what’s been done to my (our) country.
In other words,”It AIN’T FUNNY.”

To: Hojczyk; All
If the federal government was actually respecting its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers and associateld limited power to appropriate taxes as the Founding States had intended, then most citizens would probably have to guess who the current president is.

Obama has not been ‘disruptive’ ? Hello ?.....

I am an engineer is Silocon Valley, and here the word "disruptive" is a Yuge term used all over the place to mean doing something in a radically better way such that business-as-usual no longer works. Usually meaning a new technological advancement everyone has to adapt to.

Usually its a startup with a new "disruptive" technology (radically superior at something than existing technology) that is called a "disruptive company" or simply a "disrupter". Its a compliment, and not one that applies to Obama--he is about tired old racial divisions and class envy--but does apply to Trump--of course the businesses that are built on doing it the old way are hurt by disrupters and don't like them one little bit--kind of like how the government business-as-usual types don't like Trump.
