Outside Cleveland, thousands of Democrats are becoming Republicans

Trump’s list of 11 Conservative candidates for SCOTUS is one helluva start.

In fact, his policy positions are FAR more conservative than “GWBush-the-Establishment-RINO”.

I was going to register as an Independent if the convention was stolen by the idiots from Colorado. However, these statist SOBs lost, so I remain.

If Trump wins the presidency I recommend that all patriotic Republicans try to convince others to register Demonrats as Republicans as long as Trump is keeping his word. If the GOP is going in the right direction we should remain and help turn the country around.

I think it is going to go to the person who makes the fewest mistakes. Either can win it, either can lose it. If I were betting, I’d bet Hillary ONLY BECAUSE she wants it more, and that is often the deciding factor. Trump loses and he’s still a billionaire with a hot wife, a business empire, literally fame and fortune. Hillary loses and she’s lucky merely to slink off to the dustbin of history without being thrown in jail. “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog” as the old saying goes. However, she consistently makes bad judgements, trusts bad people and is not liked or trusted by many.....

His name and reputation would be forever linked to losing the presidential race.

Bring it back? Trump is moving into ground the Republican Party has never covered (Populism and pro-Labor) or hasn’t in a half century (Protective Tariffs). If he succeeds it’s a very different party, hence the panic among those for whom it’s been a personal plaything and employment provider (like four generations of the Bush Clan of Connecticut, Texas, and Florida). You might think it Grand but it’s not the Old Party.
You are, of course right as to your characterization of the Republican Party's official positions on these matters. Having cut my baby teeth in the reasonably Republican days of Connecticut (Meskill, Sarasin, Denardis) when they were still competitive, voting for Ford in '76, largely because he WAS Ford, andbecause Carter struck a lot of Connecticutians as too hayseed.

But I was a speaking of a restoration of something more primal. I was a Cruz supporter, and I had expected to get a man in who would extend the Reagan agenda. But so much happened in those four dem terms, and some also in the three Bush terms, that I see a long term restoration of a Republican Party that is more populist than it could ever be since the Democrats had held the populist mantle for so long. The reason being the populists now can still in some sense be a restoration is because the Establishment itself is oriented directly against the Common Good and the nation as a whole.

Trump is not going to give a dissertation on Bastiat, Hayek, Friedman or Von Mises. He might even think they are an accounting firm. But he is reframing the debate that will give all the existing players an opportunity to get the Republican Party out of its rut, and I hope chase the money boys out, as they make poor alliance partners.

When the dust settles, I am hoping that a smaller government movement may ultimately come out of it. Trump isn't offering it, but some elements of the Dems may be willing to sue for peace when they see some elements of non-left big government. An awful lot wil be in play in a Trump presidency, and the John Ellis Bushes and rockefellers are the odd man out.

I realize that but there are no constraints on a national election for president. You don’t have to be a member of a political party to vote for their candidate. That is why the questions seemed strange.
