Poll: Trump Remains Within Striking Distance of Clinton as Security Issues Rise
Morning Consult ^ | 7/18/2016 | Cameron Easley

Donald Trump remains within striking distance of Hillary Clinton as the Republican National Convention kicks off in Cleveland.

A national Morning Consult survey taken over the past weekend shows the bellicose businessman trailing the former secretary of State in a head-to-head matchup, 41 percent to 39 percent. In our previous survey, Trump was just one point behind Clinton. One-fifth of voters remain undecided.

The presumptive Republican nominee leads his Democratic counterpart among independents by 11 points, 38 percent to 27 percent. Clinton boasts a large advantage among young voters: 47 percent of voters aged 18 to 29 back her, compared with 28 percent who support Trump.

Trump was the top choice for 45 percent of whites, while fewer than one-quarter (24 percent) of Hispanics and just 7 percent of African Americans said they would vote for him.

In a three-way contest including Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson, Clinton leads Trump by 3 points, 38 percent to 35 percent. Johnson, the former New Mexico governor, was the first choice for 11 percent of respondents. Fifteen percent of voters remain undecided.

National security is creeping back up in voters’ minds after another terrorist attack in France – this time in Nice – left dozens dead and injured. Almost three in 10 voters (29 percent) said security issues were at the top of their minds, up 3 points from the previous week. More than four in 10 Republicans (42 percent) said security was their top issue, compared with just 21 percent of Democrats and 26 percent of independents.

The national Morning Consult survey polled 2,002 voters from July 14-16 for a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points. See the toplines and crosstabs.

Trump down 2 in MC. I still think they are having trouble determining the mix of the electorate. Trump up 11 with Independents but down 2 overall. I dont pay for the crosstabs but i can only surmise that this poll is weighted heavily on straight party lines with a probable 6-7 point weight to D's. Hillary's numbers are horrible and eventually this will reflect in the polls.

“A national Morning Consult survey”...........

Here we go again, another “scientific poll” which means NOTHING. The only poll(s) we need to read will be the one on November 9th, 2016. Polls tell you what the originator wants you to read, they (polls) can be swayed any way wanted but careful wording, when/where they are taken and who the initial questions are directed at. Waste of time for the reader but an “opinion piece” by the writer.

“Ring... Ring... Ring...

It's 3 a.m., and your children are safe and asleep.

But there's a phone in the White House...

and it's ringing.

Something is happening in the world.

Your vote will decide who answers that call.

Ring... Ring... Ring...

It's 3 a.m., and your children are safe and asleep. Who do you want answering the phone?”

Polls are instructive in determining trends. If you think they are bull$hit then don’t comment on them. Simple enough.

“Polls are instructive in determining trends.”

Agree, but they are also useful in creating trends, unfortunately. IMHO, if the media, and Hollywood, and the sports-entertainment people created a fake candidate from scratch, and pushed that fake person, they could create a viable candidate with name recognition.

I think the massacres of police are creating a Trump Underground, people who won’t say Trump to a pollster but who will Vote Trump in November.

If a poll *is* B.S., then it warrants a callout. Simple enough.

Yeah - we can take a poll by an entity that refers to Trump as “the bellicose businessman” as Gospel...

Gotta love howard. He made me die laughing on my way to work when i was younger.

It seems he’s evolved. Great statement.

I knw it’s horrible, but one of the things that made me laugh the hardest is when he we say 2000 dead in earthquake and Fred would laugh like barney rubble. Then Howard and Robin would say “come on man, that’s not funny. What’s the matter with you”

Does that make me sick?

I still felt bad for the people...

this says he is up 11 percent among independents. Many polls have him up 20 percent.

When he smashes her at the debates, it’s over.

There are a lot of white Democrats in the south and midwest who are staying silent. They have been ignored by their own party while radical groups like BLM and La Raza get premium time with Democratic Party officials and are treated like royalty. There is anger raging inside of them too, but they’ll express it at the ballot box in the name of Trump!

Breitbart (h/t Emma) Last year, Obama directed his administration to accept at least 10,000 Syrian refugees over the course of this fiscal year…(but has since raised it to 100,000). However, Clinton said that Obama’s plan did not go nearly far enough— Clinton called for a 500% increase to Obama’s refugee resettlement operation.

Most dumbed down Americans are unaware of the fact that muslims want to take over America.
They haven’t a clue as to what islam is really all about.

If Hillary is elected, we’re done.
