The buggy whip analogy proves you are an economic idiot. We are talking about steel which is not and never will be obsolete. Get a better argument.

This is very backward looking. Nowhere does Williams account for innovation in American manufacturing. Innovation cannot take hold on a wide scale until existing arrangements are made to exit.

It’s so similar to the oil patch. Why stop buying from Saudi Arabia when domestic is not readily available was the question 10 years ago. Fracking tech answered that question and the result is pipelines and terminals are flooded with domestic supply, and prices at the pump are half what they were six years ago.

The Chinese operate sweatshops and harm the environment greatly in the process. Should Americans tell them their arrangement is on the way out, they will respond with lower prices and try to stop domestic production in the same fashion that the Saudis tried and are still trying to undercut domestic oil production. These foreign entities want American producers bankrupt, sidelined out of the game, and out of the way of their market share.

Americans and American innovation can compete handily with the Chinese. All that is needed is for political leadership to ratchet up the movement. Donald Trump knows just what to do.

Big cap corps love regulations and taxes because it keeps the riff raff out and provides them time and cover while they plot their escape to the third world and offshore production. That is how the game is played.

Basic trade cause and effect is now wrong because Trump says it is. Everything will be great forever.

I did read it. Corporatist lackeys promote certain tariffs. Punitive vs Protective.

>>The word and meaning of Conservative has morphed into blindly supporting stateless globalist economic goals. It happened in front of our eyes.

It’s a sorry state of affairs. Our choice is being a slave of the government or being a slave of globalists.

These are all defined in the eyes of the beholder. You seem to want the beholder to be government bureaucrats.

"What if we have a war, and have no steel industry to fall back on?"

Some years ago, there was a incident on a battle ship, rumor was it probably sabotage, something about a homo love affair...(?) whatever.. Anyway, there was a massive explosion in one of the gun turrets and it completely destroyed the gun and killed the gun crew..

When they repair the ship they replaced the gun with a rocket launcher.. Maybe that's not a bad thing, but the sad part is they said they were unable to replace the gun barrel because the technology to pour steel for such a massive barrel it was no longer available....

It seems to me, with the passing of every year, are relying more then ever on foreign countries to put our satellites into orbit... And I have read somewhere that Japan makes some (most?) of our fighter jets.... Maybe soon we will loose our ability to do that as well....

:(

No. Stop thinking in the binary.
