Pence discusses meeting with Trump

CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — Gov. Mike Pence is back in Indiana after spending part of the weekend in New Jersey with Donald Trump.

The trip fueled speculation that Pence is being vetted for Trump’s vice presidential pick. But the governor says all they did was play golf.

Pence spoke to the media while at Connor Prairie on Sunday evening. He and his wife, Karen Pence, were there to watch the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Fourth of July concert.

The couple and one of their sons made the trip to New Jersey to meet with Donald and Melania Trump.

The governor wouldn’t say he was there to talk about the possibility of joining the ticket, instead he said they talked about the future of the country and Indiana.

“I support Donald Trump to be the next president of the United States of America because I think not only does Indiana need a partner for our prosperity in the White House but as I said not long ago, our troops need a commander in chief that has their backs,” Pence said. “Hard-working Americans and businesses need a Washington, D.C. off their back, and we need a president who will appoint common sense conservatives to the Supreme Court of the United States. And I think on all of those issues Donald Trump will provide the kind of leadership that will strengthen our nation, restore our prosperity and provide the kind of appointments to the Supreme Court that we’ll be pleased to support.”

The governor also said he would join Donald Trump on the campaign trail here in Indiana and elsewhere.

If the governor accepts the VP position, he must withdraw from his reelection campaign by July 15.

Trump is returning to the Hoosier State on July 12 for a fundraiser at the Columbia club. It’s set for 5:30 p.m. Ticket information has not yet been announced.

I have heard that the Trumps fundraiser is to be a big bucks one. In the $2,000+ starting price just to get in the door.

I wouldn't have a problem with Pence as VP, but he would certainly leave Indiana hanging in the wind and set things up for 'rat John Gregg to waltz into the governors mansion.

More than likely a cabinet position. Pence could win the November governor and then step down in January. I think then the LT Governor takes over

The quote from Pence suggests he is gunning for VP. I could see Trump wanting a midwest VP. Ohio is key. My concern with Pence is he hasn’t been in the fire yet on a national level. The Dems/MSM will attack Trump’s VP viscously.

I seriously doubt Trump’s gonna take a full-term Governor.

I read his remarks, and he sounds like just another empty suit politician.

Pence endorsed Cruz in the Indiana primary, albeit a lukewarm endorsement.

I heard it live. He started off his Cruz “endorsement” by complimenting Trump.

All in all, I would kinda hate to lose him as our Governor.

The “Pence Must Go” crowd is loud here, so he has his own battle going here.

Unfortunately, he turned out to be that way. Once promising.
