I had the same question as you did and was going to post this when I saw your reply. Indeed, who decides! Police Chief Carey deserves to be EX POLICE CHIEF Carey. Whenever they had their meeting and made their decision, someone should have spoken up and said if you don’t know the difference between name calling and a true crime, then this meeting is over. Law enforcement needs to say “we are not going to be a party to this madness and we are not going to waste resources catering to your political correctness. We have a serious job to do and so do you. I suggest you get on with yours which is educating children and not teaching them how to be liberal toadys.”
“It might be against school rules, but it’s not a law enforcement matter anymore than breaking the dress code.”....
Even third graders are covered under the First Amendment.

I thank God every day that I don’t have children or grandchildren.
If the kids were smart and not brainwashed, would love to see them team up and fit the word ‘brownie’ into every sentence in classes. Overload the system with complaints, kind of a reverse Cloward-Piven thing.

The fundamental problem is that nobody actually wants responsibility, but everyone wants authority. Socialists (so-called “liberals”) are people who think, and all too often are able to vindicate the belief, that they will be able to evade responsibility while exercising authority. The impact on the rest of us, however, is described in the following (author unknown):
