The New Jersey Senate will not vote on a bill that would have raised the gas tax and cut the sales tax in the Garden State.
Action News learned Thursday the Senate is not satisfied with the bill that was approved by the Assembly, and senators are working to draft their own legislation.
The current legislation would have raised the gas tax to 37.5 cents a gallon from 14.5 cents and cut the sales tax from seven percent to six percent. The gas tax money would be used to pay for road and bridge work for eight years.
Gov. Chris Christie has been vocal in his support of the current bill.
"All I've heard from Democrats for two years is 'you have a crisis, and it has to be done by June 30.' Well, here we are June 30 and the people holding it up are the Democrats in the Senate," Christie said.

My gut tells me Christie was playing the democtats...
But to what end?
Trump campaign vetting Chris Christie for VP

Obama has been talking a gas tax hike...??? Maybe connected...
I think Christie just played the Democrats on this one, give them a tax hike they want with a tax decrease they dont want.
That way they veto it and he can point to them as being the problem and uncooperative.
Christie knew this was a goner before he supported it. He basically Obamad the New Jersey Democrats on this. He is forcing the Rats to veto their own bill, political genius.
Christie just an awful person in general. He’s always been a RINO, and I hope Trump doesn’t pick him.
Our highway fund is bankrupt and our infrastructure is crumbling.
First of all, it is not. Our roads are no worse than they were a decade ago.
Second of all, when did our great highway fund comptroller discover his fiscal irresponsibility. The first I heard about this 23 cent/gallon tax hike was about two weeks ago.
Taxes here are insane. And the politicians want more. I say: cut all taxes in half and fire all State employees with an even identification number. Taxpayers would hardly notice.
ML/NJ
The gas and other taxes will come back with a vengence, bank on it.
Notice nobody mentions the untold numbers of illegals and their anchor babies and refugees that have been enjoying their free ride in the Garden State.
Special ed teachers, welfare, crime,...all that takes cash.

Don’t know but I do know the democrats wanted a gas tax hike AND no decrease in the sales tax.
They are just the newest passengers on the gravy train (and quickly growing in number); they’re joining all the Welfarians and gubmint workers. Ironically enough, they are being trafficked here to replace the fleeing American taxpayers and their employers (the “makers”), and this swelling class of takers is putting even more pressure on the remaining makers - guaranteeing that few people will ever buy a home in NJ for decades to come. There will always be the 1%ers and gubmint workers buying them, but within a generation the only other homeowners will be Section 8 slumlords renting them out to Uncle Sam...
