I’m going to make an assumption here, always risky, but I’m assuming that the men who initially traded shots with Mateen, and the men who ultimately killed him were neither Muslim nor gay.

I’m not surprised. I remember when an young Hispanic democrat in Florida shot a black yout’ in Florida, and middle aged white conservatives were blamed.
We live in a world where a guy with:
1. long-standing history of association with radical Islam
2. Whose daddy is a Taliban member
3. who SAID REPEATEDLY he was doing what he was doing in retribution for attacks on ISIS in Syria, in the name of ISIS
does not have a clear motive.

If the Orlando shooter had homosexual tendencies, Islam gives him more reasons to do what he did.
The 9-11-01 attackers drank alcohol and went to nudie bars to “lower their suspicion” and blend in. And then they went on to murder 3000 people.
For the Orlando shooter, choosing to kill a lot of people in a homosexual bar gives him an excuse to visit said establishments (to scout it out) and even act on his impulses (to lower suspicion when he shows up with weapons).
And he then MUST become a martyr, because only that will forgive the sin of homosexuality.
You see the same thing with Muslim terrorist groups who rape a girl and then send her to be a suicide bomber, because only virgins and good wives can go to heaven and she can no longer be either. And the rapists have the justification of creating a more effective suicide bomber, and the highest measure of morality in Islam is how well you spread the meme.
