A Combative Donald Trump Shows Up at Tampa and Pittsburgh Rallies

Some people who know Republican presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump say he has two aspects: a thoughtful, charming private demeanor and an impulsive, inflammatory public persona.

But now, two public images of Mr. Trump appear to be emerging: the scripted candidate who affirms conservative ideals and attacks presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, and the free-wheeling headliner at rallies who seems willing to hurl insults at any and all, even within his own party.

The latter public version of Mr. Trump showed up on Saturday at campaign stops in Tampa, Fl., and Pittsburgh, Pa., offering a stark contrast from the more-restrained candidate who used teleprompters at his private golf club on Tuesday in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., and at a conference of religious conservatives on Friday in Washington, D.C.

“I don’t think he’s going to endorse me,” Mr. Trump said in Tampa about the state’s ex-governor and former presidential nomination rival, Jeb Bush. “Who the hell cares?’’

As he moves past the primary season toward the general election, Mr. Trump must try to retain current supporters who relish his loose, incendiary, rhetoric while broadening his support to more moderate voters looking for a statesman. Reconciling his differing public personae will be crucial in attaining such a balance.

Combative? Good.

The GOP elites have shown how they plan to operate in this election. They didn't even try to hold out a hand to Trump.

In fact, with the La Raza judge affair, they spat in his face in the most public rebuke possible.

They could have easily called his campaign for clarification before making public comment, but they didn't.

Eff 'em.

“Reconciling his differing public personae will be crucial in attaining such a balance.”

Actually, Trump just needs to be careful that he is always right when he pops off.

In this case !Yeb! has so few supporters and so widely disliked the observation is almost indisputable. Who the Hell cares? Making fun of Jeb won’t cost Trump any votes.

The candidates all did pledge to back the nominee whoever it would be. A few of these characters are not holding up to their pledge. Jeb is one of them so Trump has every right to point this out. If one can’t hold up to a pledge like that how can you expect him to hold up a pledge to the US as president.

Extemporaneous Trump better than Teleprompter Trump. Let The Donald be The Donald.

Thoughtful, pensive advice from the venerable WSJ, {like they care about Trump} and we give a fat rat's ass about their condescending, contemptuous bullshit.

One idiotic expert is comparing the 55,000 emails Hillary has released to Trump not releasing one page of his tax returns.

This is so confusing. I thought Trump was a moderate and had to attract conservative voters?

If these so-called "moderates" think "statesmanship" is most needed in this time and place, then I'd cheerfully volunteer that eliminating their rectal-cranial inversion is most needed in this time and place.
