Britain's £1bn ($1.4bn) warships are losing power in the Persian Gulf because they cannot cope with the warm waters, MPs have been told.

Six Type 45 destroyers have repeatedly experienced power outages because of the temperatures, leaving servicemen in complete darkness.

Type 45 turbines were designed for the North Atlantic, not the tropics.

I can fix the problem. Just carry a long hose and suck cooling water from a greater depth.

At first, I thought this would be some sort of silly global-warming story. But it's not. The problem is evidently due to poorly-designed turbines.

How come it is only the British Royal Navy warships?

Only the part of ocean the vessels are on is too hot?

Well then, the headline is very wrong.

They shouldn’t blame ‘the sea is too hot’.

They need to install a thermostat in the upper radiator hose.

Never mind that Britain has slipped to a fourth rate power and no longer can afford maintenance and modernization.

“I can fix the problem. Just carry a long hose and suck cooling water from a greater depth.”

The gulf averages about 50 meters in depth.

I wonder what happens when the power goes. Do they
run an extension cord to another ship?

It has also happened to a nuclear powered Russian icebreaker. The cooling system cannot handle warm weather, so the icebreaker is limited to service in northern polar regions and cannot be used in the southern Antarctic Ocean because it cannot transit the tropical zone.
