Paul Ryan Calls Donald Trump’s Attack on Judge ‘Racist,’ but Backs Him Still
New York Times ^ | JUNE 7, 2016 | DAVID M. HERSZENHORN

WASHINGTON — Speaker Paul D. Ryan on Tuesday called Donald J. Trump’s criticism of a Hispanic-American judge “the textbook definition of a racist comment” and said he “regrets” the remark. But Mr. Ryan also reiterated his support for Mr. Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, against Hillary Clinton.

“I disavow these comments — I regret those comments that he made,” Mr. Ryan said after announcing a new Republican anti-poverty initiative in Anacostia, an overwhelmingly black neighborhood in Washington.

“Claiming a person can’t do their job because of their race is sort of like the textbook definition of a racist comment,” Mr. Ryan continued. “I think that should be absolutely disavowed. It’s absolutely unacceptable. But do I believe that Hillary Clinton is the answer? No, I do not.”

He added, “I believe that we have more common ground on the policy issues of the day and we have more likelihood of getting our policies enacted with him than with her.”

Mr. Trump made the comments about Judge Gonzalo P. Curiel of Federal District Court, who is overseeing a suit against the now-shuttered Trump University.

Pressed on Mr. Trump’s doubling down on his position that he is skeptical of the objectivity of nonwhite judges, Mr. Ryan said, “If you say something that is wrong, the mature and responsible thing is to acknowledge that it’s wrong.”

So, Paul, is Sotomayor “racist” because she said sex and ethnicity might be and WILL BE used in making judicial decisions?

If Trump wins, it will be despite these RINO's. I really dislike them more than the Democrats because they are saboteurs. They will be on the sidelines the whole time throwing crap.

The NYT and CNN are still hoping they can come up with a prominent Republican that will destroy Trump and back Hillary?

I predict Trump’s comments, like his “build the wall” and “muslim ban” comments, will end up being a net positive for Trump.

Trump is simply pointing out that there are two sides to the identity politics game. If the left can say it’s a plus for a judge to be a “wise Latina” (implying her race will influence her judicial decisions), then it’s fair for Trump to point out that a judge being a member of “La Raza” will also influence his judicial decisions.

Based on their comments it is clear Ryan and Cruz won’t fight this battle. The only logical conclusion here is that they prefer the Butcher of Benghazi to Trump. How principled and conservative of them.

Mexican is not a race.

Ryan should put down his textbook. It’s making him stupid.

The judge is biased. He should get out.

I like Newt but was upset with him when he came out dissing Trump. If he felt the need to speak, he should have done it behind closed doors.

I despise Paul Ryan. I despise the air that he breathes. I despise the ground that he walks on.

No, it’s not even close to being racist. The judge and the attorney suing are both members of La Raza. La Raza is a fascist, anti American, Mexican nationalist organisation. “Mexican” is not a race, it is a nationality. And it a nationality that has repeatedly attacked Mr. Trump both rhetorically and physically (waiving Mexican flags while they do it). It is not slightly racist for Mr. Trump to be concerned that people loyal to a specific foreign country are targeting him and using the facade of legal proceeding to do it.

We knew they would never fight this, or any other significant battle.

This is why all my suspicions and fears about Cruz are confirmed day by day. He is far worse than I thought-—another “go-along-to-get-along” type clothed in the garb of conservative ideas.

Ryan is just a moron.

When he was on the ticket he lost the hispanic vote in a landslide. Pandering doesn’t work.

Ryan should cut the federal funding for La Raza if he really cares about racism.

Ryan means nothing to us here on Freerepublic.

The story is turning around thanks to todays Breitbart and Drudge stories.

Just like the Muslim ban and building the wall people will see Trump is on the right side of this story. This La Raza Judge likely will have to recuse himself.

These Rinos will have to back down, or get the boot

Trump’s candidacy has exposed many people one may have thought were conservative. Those conservatives core beliefs and principles were subject to the highest bidder.
