Some Yale University students are demanding changes to the English Department curriculum: specifically, they don't think it should feature so many English poets who were straight, white, wealthy, and male.

"It is your responsibility as educators to listen to student voices," the students wrote in a petition to the faculty. "We have spoken. We are speaking. Pay attention."

If the students were all so knowing, why are they “students”

However, if Yale gives in (again) then they deserve the scorn they will earn.

This is nothing less than cultural genocide.

So I guess I was a real bigot to visit Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London the previous two years in a row (saw Anthony and Cleopatra and then The Merchant of Venice)? Really goes to show how anti-intellectual these people really are.

“It is your responsibility as educators to listen to student voices,” the students wrote in a petition to the faculty. “We have spoken. We are speaking. Pay attention.”

It is YOUR responsibility as students to attend classes, absorb what is being taught, do the work, and graduate...

Then you can come back as a professor and tell someone what to do...Until then, sit down and shut the h*ll up....

I think Shakespeare might be exempt (have you read some of the poetry he's addressed to men? I know that flowery prose and platonic relationships can get kind of gurgly in expression, but really...)

That's what I was thinking. If they are going to let the inmates run the asylum, then the tenured profs and administrators may as well be let go.

I actually feel kind of sorry for the “students of color” who actually want to read and study great works by great writers but are probably intimidated into going along with this nonsense. But it is up to them to stand up to it.

‘It is your responsibility as educators to listen to student voices,...’

I thought teaching was their primary responsibility.
