The purpose and culture of beauty contests is to measure a woman’s appearance. They agree to serve as, basically, a piece of meat for the contest in the hope of starting a career in modeling, fame or whatever. It is a degrading experience but participants go in knowing this, especially in the big contests like Trump ran. It is a sexist design and activity if sexism means measuring a woman’s beauty and rejecting those who are not as beautiful, according to the judges.
I was in a beauty contest when I was young and I quit early on because I was grossed out by the participants and the whole operation. My older brother talked me into doing it for a friend of his whose father ran the beauty contest and wanted me in it. It was a very eye opening, demeaning experience and I really can’t see how any woman can make a sexual object of herself. But it’s not Trump’s fault; it is a participant’s free choice, fulling knowing it’s demeaning.
This is the worst POS article I’ve seen in years.
First, It links Kelly with a quote-seeming headline that she never said. It’s not even a bad misquote. It’s completely made up. Article has no link to her accept the authors unsubstantiated rant.
Secondly, wow, she went to some fundraisers and had her picture taken with some liberals. End of the world.
About 30 years ago, at an Easter Seals gala in DC, sat at the table with the cultural attache from the USSR Embassy. Nice guy, perfect English, great understanding of American culture, loved the Dallas Cowboys, and understood why we loved Reagan so much, etc.
Got my picture with him. About a week later we dinner with him and his charming wife. Very nice lady. He even paid.
Next day, got a call from his FBI tail. He was the KGB Resident. Still have the picture. He is retired, US citizen, living in Texas.
So much for pictures.
We need more intelligent articles and ammunition than this POS if we are going to fulfill JR’s mandate to all work together to defeat Hilary.
I’m not sure that there is a solution - or that there necessarily SHOULD be. We (men vs. women) were designed differently ON PURPOSE. Part of that purpose was/is to have certain deficiencies, and to complement each other. It allows for us to grow, which is part of The Plan (not that we BE perfect, only that we give it our best effort to work toward that goal). A married couple SHOULD fill in all of the short-comings of each individual spouse. Thus, while men may be more rational (at least when not competing with other males for a female), they are also less compassionate. Both compassion and rationality are necessary. Of course, both sexes have some of each characteristic, and within each sex there is WIDE variation in the strength of those characteristics.
