If these guys were really from Darfur, then there could be many reasons they were targeted. For example, they could have been pro-Sudanese butchers recognized by victims, or they could have been witnesses of some butchers who they recognized as new “refugees” in America.

Sounds like Jihad Recruiting, where the jihad types are trying to find people to help them, but instead the people (Muslims) that they try to recruit are much more Americanized and are not into blowing up stuff.
So it becomes obvious that they are now a threat, since they know what’s planned, but refuse to participate in it. Obvious solution is to eliminate the risk of disclosure.
