U.S. intelligence analysts are increasingly convinced that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro is likely to be pushed aside by members of his own socialist movement before finishing his term.
Senior American intelligence officials said Friday that as Venezuelas economy spins out of control, Maduros grip on power is more fragile. They briefed reporters on condition of anonymity because they werent authorized to discuss their assessments by name. [ ]
The officials said the main concern for the Obama administration is that the deep political divisions and mounting economic hardships could trigger mayhem of the sort that Caracas experienced in 1989, when at least 300 people were killed during riots, looting and clashes with police against the backdrop of another collapse in oil prices.

They’re eating their shoes in Venezuela and our college professors are commenting on how tasty old boots must be.
I see...I see ...a Salvador Allende moment..OPPS, a Nicolás Maduro moment, when he is hunkered down in the Presidential Palace armed with a helmet and a sub machine gun while THEY come for him...!

They’re just feeling the BERN!
Even if they kick the socialists out they are stuck in famine mode without heavy foreign aid.
Maduro just declared a state of emergency within the last several hours as part of his desperation to hold onto power and he’s blaming the United States for trying to ‘overthrow’ him.......
I wonder if Maduro has an escape plan. If the Army is not being paid or fed, the end is near.
Fighting for control of the bridge of the Titanic.

Odd structure in Vz military. You’ve got the army, and then you’ve got the National Guard. In the US the Guard his part of the reserve component, albeit with state missions when required. But they are integrated into overall national military force structure.
In Vz, the army and the national guard are hostile to each other. More of a check and balance relationship, that goes hot from time to time.
