Trump’s turn right started a long time ago
NY POST ^ | May 8, 2016 | Ron Kessler

Posted on 05/09/2016 2:36:13 PM PDT by AuntB

The conventional wisdom is that Donald Trump only became a conservative the day he announced his candidacy for the presidency. But like all conventional wisdom about Trump, it’s wrong.

In “Time to Get Tough: Making America #1 Again,” which came out in December 2011, Trump presented a detailed economic critique that any fiscal conservative would applaud.

The reason “this country is an economic disaster right now,” he wrote, “is because Barack Obama doesn’t understand how wealth is created — and how the federal government can destroy it.”

The private Donald Trump, on the other hand, is “the dearest, most thoughtful, most loyal, most caring man,” Foerderer said.

Far from being a bigot, Trump insisted on admitting blacks and Jews to Mar-a-Lago when several other Palm Beach clubs wouldn’t. When I first got to know Trump while conducting research with my wife Pam for my 1999 book “The Season: Inside Palm Beach and America’s Richest Society,” on the way down to Palm Beach on his plane, Trump imitated the nasal, constricted tones of Palm Beach’s blue-blood Old Guard condemning his club for not discriminating.

The conventional wisdom that Trump is a carnival act will be proven wrong once again when he moves into the White House. Donald already has a winter White House — Mar-a-Lago — picked out.

GOOD READ! Please read it all.

Must read!

“The guy is fairer than hell,” says Gary J. Giulietti, a Trump friend who handles a portion of his insurance as president of Lockton Cos., the largest privately held insurance brokerage company in the world. “He wants the best for his properties, he wants a competitive price. But he treats everyone with respect.”

Real businessmen buy whatever it is they need for their business to succeed - and that includes legislators.

“Real conservatives don’t send checks to liberal democrat”

They just push RINO policies and keep people like you on the reservation...like RUBIO, RYAN, CRUZ....

Wake up. Trump is trying to expose the corruption! HE ADMITS he has given on both sides...MUCH more to republicans.
Name me one billionaire businessman who doesn’t give to both sides...

Yours is a childish notion with grave consequences.

Trump won’t bail out Puerto Rico, But Paul Ryan, his boss Cesar Conda & Congress will!

Donald’s position statements on the issues are more conservative than the GOPe candidates were.

The GOPe is all in for the GOPe...and since they can’t have that, and it is the people themselves who are denying them of it...a lot of them are falling all over themselves to note vote for the nominee, to vote for a 3rd party, or even to vote for the DNC..

Fine...we already pretty much knew that about them which is why Trump ended up controlling the field.

This election is going to boil down to establishment politics on both sides of the aisle, doing all they can individually and together...against the American people who will be backing Trump in the GOP.

Indeed, Mr. Head.

See: Who runs the GOP and owns Paul Ryan & Marco Rubio? Let’s name names!

Reagan was a Democrat once too.
Hillary was once a Republican fan of Ayn Rand.

“Real conservatives don’t send checks to liberal democrats.”

No, they just support splitting up the anti-Democrat vote so that Hillary Clinton can be elected even without the traditional votes of the dead.

Trump is, as the article alludes to, far more conservative than most give him credit for. His conservatism is, however, more practical than ideological. It is far more similar to Ben Franklin’s conservatism than the William Buckley’s. As for me, I don’t care that someone does the right thing for the wrong reason, just that they ACTUALLY do the right thing.

Name me a more conservative policy than limiting and controlling immigration, the effect of which is to preserve (which is another word for “conserve”) the culture of this country and make up of the electorate.

Name me a more conservative policy than cutting the budget deficit and increasing the capabilities of our military.

Name me a more conservative policy than removing the regulatory hurdles that prevent us from utilizing the resources that we’ve been blessed with, so as to become energy independent.

Name me a more conservative policy than limiting regulations in general, so as to improve the odds that the private section can create jobs and make money, so as to improve the economy.

If he JUST does those things, he’ll have immeasurably improved this country. Perfection is not required; in fact, pure ideological perfection will result in defeat, thus giving us NOTHING.

LOL, that's a good one. Except our employers send them checks every pay period, or if you are a business owner every quarter.

This year I got some of my money back. Doesn't happen often, in fact most times I have to send them even more by April 15th.

Funny, those who gave money to Cruz from entities other than private individuals certainly give money to Democrats. Some of those big money backers even promised to vote for Hillary if Trump became the nominee.

You are right there. While, there’s a mixed bag on some issues, there are several important ones where he took a much stronger, more conservative stance then Yeb, Kasich and the gang. Kasich is to the left on almost every issue. He embraces Obamacare, open borders and all kinds of garbage views. I would never call Trump a conservative, because he’s not ideologically driven. He does seem to regularly show common sense and does embrace a number of conservative views. Hillary does not. No common sense and zero conservatism.

We conservatives are supposed to be the logical, rational people in the political arena (and we generally are), yet in the "never Trump" movement we have seen some of the most irrational behavior I've ever witnessed from fellow conservatives. Trump isn't perfect, but the more I hear him and find out about his actual positions, the more confident I am that he will be not only a great president, but possibly a historic one.

Now the "never Trumpers" are fantasizing about a possible third-party run. That's not logical or rational (nor, frankly, is it principled given the fact that Trump has/will have won fair and square). That's nothing more than a progressive-style, emotional temper tantrum that has zero chance of success. What happened to that pledge they were so adamant that Trump sign? Now that the shoe is on the other foot, they apparently feel no obligation to abide by the same pledge themselves. I'm very disappointed in many that I thought were better than this.

Regardless of any side issues where Trump may harbor more liberal leanings (though I am increasingly convinced that this fear is massively overblown), if he does nothing else than to follow through on his promise to build the wall and fight back against illegal immigration he will have literally saved the country. Ann Coulter is right: Other issues aside, if we don't get control of the immigration problem quickly it is game over for this country. The libs are feverishly working to tip the demographic scale against true Americans, and if they succeed we won't have to worry about all of those other issues anymore because we will never again have any say in the political process.

Still waiting for John McCain and Mittens to “turn right.” It never happened...yet I don’t recall any #NeverMcCain or #NeverMittens folks complaining like now.

I had a lawyer friend who would send a check to both the Dem and Republican judges running for office because he didn’t want to face them in court without having ‘donated.’ New York is very Democrat heavy and I imagine real estate guys like Trump have to grease a lot of wheels to get any business done in that town.
