That is why I won’t touch GM or Chrysler...handouts.
Love my Navigator since the price of gas plummeted.
My Lexus is a good ride but not as good as my former BMW 745.
Stick with Ford. A dear friend of mine just bought a Mustang 5.0 convertible...she loves it.
The 65 Stang was a real car. The 2016 is Mustang-lite.
“i bought you a brand-new Mustang, a 1965.”
The one on the right, made in America, the one on the left made in Mexico, or soon will be?
I’m gonna go with a foreign car for my next one. I mean, why not? What difference does it make?
As well it should. However, stick a good 3-link coil-over rear suspension in the '65, do the Shelby mod to the front upper control arms along with some stiffer springs and a decent-sized wheel/tire combo... surprisingly good. Considerably less mass to toss around, too.
..........me too...........myself and a buddy skipped school one afternoon and drove out on North Lamar to the only Ford Dealership in town (now a dozen?)JUST to see the little mustang on the show room floor. This was 1964 or 65.
My recollection was that the sticker was $1,700.00 dollars.
I’ll never forget it but have never owned one.
Good.
I would hate to think that someone sawed a perfectly good ‘65 Mustang in half just for a display.
Yeah the Chinese are stamping out new 65 Mustangs every day.
Let's do the comparo with the same tires on both....
To me the new Mustang borrows more from a ‘69 or ‘70 model than a ‘65. And I will add that I think the new one looks pretty dang good. I’m seeing them all over the place. My impression is that Ford has a hit on their hands. I wonder what the sales numbers look like.
I think of the 1966, and the 1968 ‘Fastback’ Mustang, and I still drool.
Nowadays? They look nice, but cost more than my first house, so no thanks.
I was not an ‘American GM’ convert, but I did own two Euro GM models. The Opel Manta and GT. There was not a thing to make better, in my mind, as to how the GT was manufactured, with aftermarket parts. However, that Manta was a different story. It was quite the BMW 2002Tii chaser, with the available swapout parts, in that time. I DID, for a while, own a 1975 Chevy Monza that was supposed to have the rotary engine, but found itself fitted with a 265 cid V*, with a very stiff 4-speed tranny. Now that design, did get the works and did have a few owners run them in Camel GT races on the SCCA tracks.
Now, for the the ‘otoh’, i also did own, for a while, a datsun 1600 Roadster, and THAT was the FUNNEST car I had ever owned. That design, also, was an SCCA racer.
I remember going to Creel Ford Co. in my hometown to see the first one. It was the basic model, six cylinder with 3 speed manual but still looked nice.
My memory may be bad too but it seems like it was $2400.00.
I bought a Honda, made in Ohio, by non-union Americans.
LOL.............must have been loaded!!!
Remember too that some time around that time they started putting little air conditioning units under the dash in the center. That said, my little 56 Chevy had factory air. I don’t think it ever worked.
$1700? Wow. I bought a 1964 Chevelle Malibu SS in November 1963 off the showroom floor, the first year of Chevelle’s existence. Sticker price $3290. It’s hard to believe a Mustang would cost that much less.
It was basically a falcon with different sheet metal. I think the engines, transmission etc. were all the same as the falcon.
The base Mustang was essentially a Falcon with better styling, straight six engine, three speed manual. I can believe the base model was $1,700 but I doubt very many went out the door for that price.
Dang, just about my favorite car ever! All the sixties SS’s I just loved. I had the 64 impala SS. If yours was all tricked out with the big engine and all the other extras that could explain the difference and, hey, I could be wrong. It was 52 years ago! I have a hard time remembering what I had for lunch!
As I recall, that 63 had the option of the 396 ci with twin four barrel carbs??? I also remember that us kids all spent zillions hopping up the 283 ci. It was one awesome engine.
Mine had the 283 cubic inch engine with a Power Pack, which was high compression heads and dual exhaust. It was midnight blue, almost black, and I loved that car. It didn’t have it very long before I had the mufflers replaced with Smitties, which sounded really cool.
