The decision by a Justice Department office to cease using the words convict and felon in official communications ignores the personal responsibility that these ex-offenders must assume for themselves, said Rep. Diane Black.
Responding to Wednesdays announcement that the Justice Departments Office of Justice Programs would no longer use the disparaging labels when officials refer to individuals convicted of crimes, the Tennessee Republican was critical of the message the decision sent to crime victims.
The words convict and felon are not disparaging, in fact they are quite generous compared to some of the phrases we could accurately ascribe to certain criminals in the DOJs custody, Ms. Black said. While the DOJ is apparently worried about the hurt feelings of those who broke our laws, I am more interested...

President trump won’t be able to erase the DOJ, as he surely needs to do with several other agencies, but he can sure clean house - from the top down!
“the Justice Departments Office of Justice Programs would no longer use the disparaging labels when officials refer to individuals convicted of crimes”
Instead they will create new euphemisms that will become disparaging in a year or two.
DOJ is correct. They would just be projection. Time to clean house.
I guess they would just be a turd.
But anyone hired into the DOJ under his misadministration can be fired.
Well I suppose they could substitute RINO and politician. That would work too.
Thank the Republican Senators for approving this wretch!
I’m thinking that President Trump will teach us some new names for criminals!
Is the DOJ doing this to ease the pain for Hillary. I guess we call her an "individual convicted of crimes" now and not CONVICT OR FELON?
Do what is Rep Black going to do about it, other than the usual grumbling?
Hey, I’ve got an idea - what about using the “power of the purse” to cut off the DOJ funding?
What? You don’t want to cause a ruckus by cutting off funds, and you’re not ever going to do that?
If not you are worthless and a poseur, Rep Black.
I can’t wait, not only will Trump restore the use of ‘convict” and “felon”, but he’ll probably want to go the other way to ensure that certain types of ex-offenders are given have some choice adjectives included for added effect and/or have the specific crime mentioned, as in “convicted rapist” or “repeat drug-related felon”.
Does the truth hurt?
“I guess they would just be a turd.”
Although this would be confusing to some .... referring to a DOJ lawyer or convict as the “turd” would be equally correct.
They will now be called “Democrat voters.” At least in Virginia.
I remember one of the late-night comedians saying we shouldn’t use the term “illegal alien” anymore; they should just be referred to as “undocumented Democrats”...
