Trump Nears Nomination
Weekly Standard ^ | 4/27/2016 | Fred Barnes

Posted on 04/27/2016 8:28:59 AM PDT by GilGil

That his victories were not surprising is an indication of how Trump has taken command of the GOP race. Ted Cruz and John Kasich have become figures in his rear view mirror. The Cruz campaign, after winning in Wisconsin on April 5, has collapsed. Cruz is desperate. He now insists Trump can't beat Hillary Clinton. Only he can. This is not a convincing argument.

"I consider myself the presumptive nominee," Trump said last night. "Absolutely." I think he's not quite there. If he wins in Indiana next week, he will be. And he's in a strong position to take the state. It will take an intervening event – a Trump blunder, say – to hold him back.

Winning is not everything. It is the only thing. That is Trumpism #1!

Did he schedule a presser to announce he’s dropping out after cruz crushed him in 5 states last night? Oh, never mind.

In many of the three-way Republican races, Trump posted a higher percentage than the Evil Witch posted in her two-way races.

For the good of the party Trump should drop out (sarc). Right now with he unbound Pennsylvania delegates Trump is right at 1000 delegates.

If it was Yeb!, there would be no doubt about it.
Everyone would be calling him the presumptive nominee.

A Blunder? You think a blunder is going to derail Trump. This guy thrives off blunders. He’s been nothing but a year long blunder and it doesn’t hurt him a bit.

If Trump doesn’t get the nomination, it will be something out of his control.

Curious to know what they were saying about Romney at this point in 2012.

Trump right now has 1000 delegates. CNN is projecting he has 988. 1000 is for sure. The odds are he gets 1237 before the convention.

If Trump were running against one person his poll results for last night would have been in the high 60’s to low 70’s percentiles who voted for him.

Wasn’t he suppose to have a ceiling in the mid 30’s?

If it were not for the rigged superdelegates, Clinton and Sanders would be locked in a tight race right now.

I’m hoping many of those Bernie zealots will vote for Trump in the general to punish the Democrat party.

If he's denied the nomination, his voters "at a minimum…are just not going to vote." And the Republican nominee can't win without them. The bigger question is whether Republicans can win with them and Trump as the nominee.

Some surprisingly cogent thought from Mr. Barnes until the last paragraph.

I know. Fred had to snipe and throw in that last line. Makes him look like a weasel.

Yep. Interesting that Mr. Barnes has finally seen the light. Maybe Ted Cruz will also announce the same at 4 pm.

Trump's win here in Pennsylvania yesterday was even bigger than I predicted. The only question now is whether he will even need California to lock up 1237 delegates.

I’m just observing and waiting for a nominee.

If Trump was in the status-quo club, the other two would have already dropped out.

I am tired of all the Cruz bashing! Remember, although he didn’t win any outright, of all the elections yesterday he did place in the top 3...

How does that work?

Trump wins all 5 states in Tonights primary, Rafael Cruz is eliminaTED. There are not enough delegate votes left for him to win.
Trump 950
Cruz 560
Kasich 153

Cruz got 1 vote from Rhode Island, Kasich got 5 from Rhode Island, and Trump won all the rest, a total of 105 for the night
http://www.foxnews.com/…/presidential-primary-caucus-results

So he lost 6 delegates out of 111 delegates

By my calculations, last night he won 94.5945% of the vote?

I am so afraid for him.
The GOPe and other rats know he will disrupt their gravy train. I’m so afraid they will try to take him out.
I hope he wears a bullet proof vest and has plenty of security.

God please protect Donald and keep him safe.
America needs him.
