NBA Commissioner Adam Silver put his foot down on Thursday, asserting that for the 2017 All-Star Game be held in Charlotte, it is “necessary” that North Carolina change its law mandating people use only public restrooms corresponding to their biological sex in government buildings.
This moves the discussion to a more definitive stance than the NBA adopted earlier in the month. In an apparent threat, Silver said that he did not know what impact the “discriminatory law” would have on the league’s ability to showcase the game in the Tar Heel state. Silver added that the law is “problematic for the NBA in North Carolina.”
According to Dan Feldman at NBC Sports, “The league is so far ahead on this issue, it deserves praise rather than nitpicking over an evolving message.” He believes that the NBA could still hold the All-Star Game weekend in Charlotte because of viability issues, but that is unlikely given the amount of time before the event scheduled for next February.
NBA icon Charles Barkley and Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy already called for the game to be moved from Charlotte. Entertainers Bruce Springsteen, Boston, and Pearl Jam have also canceled concerts in North Carolina in protest of the law. Recently PayPal jettisoned its plan for a global operations center in Charlotte, which likely cost the state up to 400 new jobs.
Friday, President Obama speaking in London weighed in on the issue saying he thinks that the laws in North Carolina and the “religious freedom law” in Mississippi are “wrong and should be overturned.” Admitting that they are crafted by good people, he stated, “Although I respect their different viewpoints, I think it’s very important for us not to send signals that anybody is treated differently.”

I can’t believe that allowing men into a women’s bathroom has become a national movement and women seem to be for it.

Time to boycott the NBA, and anyone else (performing artists, etc.) who are cancelling events because of these laws.
Is the NBgay gonna host another game in China again. Me thinks grown men can’t use the little girls room there either.
Who would want to watch games played by teams that are so racially imbalanced?
I’m sure all of the libs would agree with me-—diversity and all that jazz.

Then let the NBA set an example. Merge with the WNBA, let their scouts hang out at women’s collegiate basketball games and end any vestige of gender distinction. Let the boys and girls and the “frozen vegetables” who are unsure play together.

Just start pushing for the abolition of with men and women’s rooms. Make every bathroom for both. I mean, that’s where this is headed right? Can we just skip to the endgame argument?

But I remember a case long about a girl wanting to play football, the parents and their attorney sued the school district and eventually they won and she was able to play football.
Girl gets hurt playing football and the parents and the same attorney sue the district for allowing a girl to play football......

The Charlotte Hornets are still active and other NBA teams still go to Charlotte to play them. Why just pull the All-Star Game out of there? Why not just suspend the Hornets’ franchise? Why not take a stand that might cost the NBA something ?
That already happened with Planet Fitness last year. I think the libs won that one.
The Hornets are long gone, to New Orleans. Different team under different ownership now. The Bobcats.

This is what gripes me the most about this ignorant ideology- they are discriminating against people of morals- forcing us to accept their deviant lifestyle- forcing us to ignore our religious beliefs on the issue, and then he has the nerve to turn around and say noone should be ‘treated differently’? THEY ARE treating US differently! They are discriminating against OUR religious and m oral beliefs!
They don’t give a damn that they make everyone else feel uncomfortable- and then turn around and they whine about feeling uncomfortable? It’s ok for 99+% of the population to feel uncomfortable, but not ok for 0.03%?
How the hell are we even at this point where the freakin NBA is threatening states that don’t accept men/perverts/sickos using women’s bathrooms? It’s NOT just trannies that will use women’s bathrooms- ALL men will now be able to- rapists, perverts, pedophiles, flashers, peeping toms, sickos- all they iwll have to do is claim they are a woman- and actual women and girls will be unable to complain about them exposing their willy wonkas in the bathrooms because by golly complaining would be ‘treating them differently’ according to dear leader!
