In conservative Utah, naming road for gay leader stands out
Houston Chronicle / AP ^ | 4/19/16 | Lindsay Whitehurst

A proposal to name a street after pioneering gay leader Harvey Milk is the latest display of Salt Lake City standing out as a blue dot in a deep-red state where the prevailing Mormon faith still has a fraught relationship with the LGBT community.

Utah's capital city recently elected its first openly gay mayor and its second sitting gay councilman, creating an increasingly friendly atmosphere for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in the home of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The conservative religion's tone on gay issues has softened in recent years, but it still opposes same-sex marriage, believes homosexuality is a sin and recently banned baptisms for the children of gay parents. Faith leaders said the highly criticized move would avoid putting children in a tug-of-war between their parents and church teachings.

Sheesh since they voted for Cruz, does this really surprise anyone? When you have zero principles this happens.

Harvey Milk, the child molester. Why are homos’ cultural icons always such despicable perverts?

Gotta love that liberal press spin. Salt Lake City is a little dot of reason in an otherwise evil, hateful sea of conservatives!!!!!

The only time I was in SLC, August 1992, it had a lot of litter downtown. Have they cleaned it up?

It’s the kind of “leaders” the American people admire.

Child predators are now having streets named after them? The same people outraged at Jerry Sandusky are embracing Harvey Milk?

What would you call a 33-year-old man who both had and axiomatically acted upon a deviant sexual appetite for underage, drug-addicted, runaway boys? Harvey Milk

Harvey Milk’s only claim to fame is that he was the first openly homosexual candidate to be elected to public office (San Francisco city commissioner). His chief cause was to do away with the Judeo-Christian sexual ethic.

In 1978 Milk was murdered over a non-related political dispute by fellow Democrat Dan White, and a “progressive” martyr was born.

This sexual predator, even, got this own US postage stamp.

How about you take a break from thread jacking? This topic has not one d@mn thing to do with the primary, so why don't you take your primary agitating bullsh*t somewhere else?

It's also quite a vile and nasty thing to compare support for a child molester to people who voted for Cruz. All of you candidate partisans need to get a freakin grip.

Stop bringing your D@mn fight to threads that have nothing to do with it.

Utah claims to be conservative, when money comes to the issue. And it always does up there.

Typical Cruz luster. Always denouncing free speech. Just like your sleazy candidate did in Chicago supporting the thugs and BLM against the first amendment. Your beliefs toward the hated first amendment comes honestly I guess.

More deceit. I didn't tell you not to talk about it, I said go someplace where it is appropriate to the thread.

You are like the Tax Protestor showing up at an Anti-Abortion rally. You are out of place.

Your beliefs toward the hated first amendment comes honestly I guess.

Geeze... get a freaking grip!
