Obama to forgive the student debt of permanently disabled people
Washington Post ^ | April 12, 2016 | Danielle Douglas-Gabriel

The Obama administration plans to forgive $7.7 billion in federal student loans held by nearly 400,000 permanently disabled Americans.

By law, anyone with a severe disability is eligible to have the government discharge their federal student loans. The administration took steps four years ago to make the process easier by letting people who are totally and permanently disabled use their Social Security designation to apply for a discharge, but few took advantage.

Liberals are mentally ill ... does this qualify them as “disabled?”

Great! Let’s insist upon releasing summary statistics about schools and majors though for public health reasons. I would bet a Masters in Fine Arts would become a leading cause of crippling disability.

With so many unemployed having found ways to be called “disabled” to continue their benefits, I now see I need to become that, too.

I’ll say. To me it would depend on the definition of disability. If you are literally bed ridden, paralyzed from the neck down, ok. Bad legs, bad back, allergies, autistic and many other faux disabilities then no. I didn’t read the article because I am sure it would piss me off.

I can see by looking over your previous posts that are a permanently depressed. Presto! You qualify.

How long until the shrinks start selling “complete disability”?

Monies collected politically are disbursed politically.

The University system indoctrinates kids to the joys of ever-expanding government, and then the government legally assures that student debt can’t be eliminated via bankruptcy.

The costs to the STUDENTS of an expensive but useless major are INFINITE, but to the lenders and Universities the risks are ZERO, since the debt cannot be erased by ANY means.

Educators puff Underwater Basket Weaving to young, vulernable teens as HORIZON BROADENING. Educators speak of companies USING or ENSLAVING workers, but then those educators use and enslave their own students..!

Government & Academia: ONE HYPOCRITICAL HAND WASHING THE OTHER.

And then they

In my neck of the woods (and surely elsewhere) there are folks who will - for a fee - coach a child on how to "fail" a school intelligence test. Once the child "fails" he's classified as special ed, and he gets all sorts of breaks. And the parents get a monthly check from the government.

It's a home-based industry, and I see Obama's move as helping that industry expand. So Obama is creating new jobs after all.

That's the key point right there. But I suppose even a solid set of rules would eventually suffer from mission creep.

During my many years on a fire department I had the opportunity to meet thousands of “permanently disabled” people. I would say that only around 70% - 80% were scamming the system. So it is great that we are going to be forgiving their student loans too. How humanitarian of Obama!

They will not be required to submit documentation of their eligibility,

Anyone who does NOT apply is really disabled.

I agree with you completely. For REAL disabilities (military disabled for instance), what Obama did was reasonable to me, however, I think that there may be way too many “severely disabled” for this to be anything but another scam on the taxpayers. Even the military disability status can be and is fudged.

Oh, look—a majority of young SSI recipients are minorities, and blacks are over-represented multiple times for their population through all age groups:

NO...he's not going to forgive the debt. He's going to make every one else pay for it.
