As Donald Trump ratchets up his complaints about the Republican nominating process — one he enthusiastically joined last June — the uncertainty in the tightening battle between him and Ted Cruz is kicking up renewed speculation about the possibility of alternative candidates entering the fray.

The latest name surfacing as a late-entry 2016 presidential bid is retired Marine Gen. James Mattis, former commander of Central Command. The Daily Beast published a lengthy report last week on an effort by a group of conservative billionaire donors to convince Mattis to consider an independent run.

And another article, related:

Trump on Ice

He probably won’t be the nominee. So how will the GOP get rid of him?

The simple fact is that most people did NOT vote for Trump in the GOP primaries, and his delegates come from the fact that he won a couple of winner take all states, where the winner needed only a plurality. Since there were something like five to seven candidates at the start, the vote was very divided.

The American voters will choose our next POTUS! NOT THE MEDIA!!Posted by Donald J. Trump on Monday, April 11, 2016

This is one of the comments;
Adam Forbes When early Americans were politically disenfranchised by Great Britain, they took up arms and overthrew their government for misrepresentation. The political system is trying it's best to disenfranchise the will of The People again. Who would have thought the Republican party that portrays conservative values and constitutional steadfastness would work so hard to disrupt Our collective say. GOP, YOU are put on notice that We The People are the foundation and steering force of this country and will not tolerate misrepresentation. #donttreadonme Like · Reply · 283 · 24 mins
Trump's latest tweet, 21 minutes ago. 2100 likes and 1080 retweets. He's got 7 million twitter followers. So think about how many people have read that tweet in the first 30 minutes.

This is happening all over our country—great people being disenfranchised by
politicians. Repub party is in trouble! https://t.co/wNXRqVl9Uu— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 11, 2016

Trump is blowing this up. And I love it. This is why he is so popular with we-the-people - actual voters. It's why he got more people at his rally last night than had a vote in the delegate assignment operation in Colorado. Trump has said that his twitter and facebook accounts are like owning a major newspaper with out the losses. His reach is probably 10+million within minutes of a post or tweet.

I like the headline “Trump Targets”.

Everything Trump has targeted he has won.

He’s going to take this part of the GOPe system down too.

And Ted has received even fewer votes, and won less states. Furthermore Ted didn’t win the winner take all states, except Wisconsin, Trump did. So what exactly is your point?

That means 14.717 million voters have rejected Ted Cruz, or about 70% of all popular voters.

And the facts, he has millions more votes than second place Cruz, yeah so lets select the losing candidate for our nominee.

Smells like a Tool Fool.

If this is Trump’s position on ‘disenfranchised’ votes, he needs to give up 10% of the delegates. He got them from those who didn’t vote for him.

This is pure propaganda out of Rove’s playbook. Kasich is now running as a liberal dem trying to make polls seem like he is the only one to beat Hill = that won’t fly. This is a meaningless dream by the media and a handful of gope sore losers.

“Why even bother holding elections and letting people vote?!”

That is the main point isn’t it. The whole process is a sham. I will not be a part of it. It is Trump or nothing.

You think Trump should give up his delegates that aren’t proportional to his votes?

LOLOL!! So many NEVER think that far ahead before they say foolish things. Amazing how so called self professed “conservatives” bong the elite establishment kool-aid. Probably take it as an enema too. Drunk on it for sure.

I agree with Jim;
