HIROSHIMA, Japan (Reuters) - John Kerry will not offer an apology for the United States' use of the atomic bomb against Japan when he becomes the first U.S. secretary of state to visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum on Monday, a senior U.S. official said.

Kerry is visiting the city, which was obliterated by a U.S. atomic bomb on Aug. 6, 1945, to attend gathering of foreign ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) advanced economies that Japan opened on Sunday with a call to end nuclear weapons.

I think the real question is, is James Taylor accompanying him and if so, what song will he sing?

A suggestion to show unity with the Japanese people.

"I Think I'm Turning Japanese" ~ The Vapors

Song suggestions?

It was a shame to target the only area of Christians. It would have been better if it had been Nagasaki or a non-palace area of Tokyo.

But it ended the war. Those bastards.

I will say, this is an excellent occasion to encourage everyone to look up “Tora! Tora! Tora!,” a most excellent movie about Pearl Harbor.

He’d better not. Those two bombs saved millions of lives, including my father.

They should reserve their call to end nuclear weapons for the governments of Iran and North Korea, both of which seem absolutely determined to start World War III.

This is even funnier because the Japanese are real big on the apology thing.

Kerry needs to apologize for treason during the Viet Nam war that we won and came home from before the Democrats defunded the South and let them be slaughtered.

Maybe Kerry should start by apologizing for helping Iran get nukes.

No point in waiting until they start setting them off in a few years.

My Dad too, they had orders to get ready to assault the mainland before the A-Bomb order was given.

Some here had Father’s, Uncles, and other relatives who fought, and some died fighting the sometimes savage Japanese in the South Pacific, at sea, the Aleutian Islands, and other places. No apology.
My Dad was in a Philippine staging area waiting for invasion orders for Japan. Thanks to Harry Truman for ordering the A bombing of Japan. No apology.

Screw them. They never apologized for Unit 731. And that was an atrocity without parallel. They made Dr. Mengele look like a family physician.
There were no survivors. So the Jap government says they cannot really know all the facts, and therefore, cannot apologize.

“Tora! Tora! Tora!,” is an excellent movie, I usually watch it on Dec. 7 or there about.

Those two bombs saved millions of lives, including my father.

They also saved the lives of a hell of a lot of Japanese, who would have died in the fight to the death in the invasion of Japan.

Or Truman could have simply taken the Obama approach, apologized for Herbert Hoover and given Japan some money. Of course, Japan today would probably look a lot like North Korea.

We should never apologize for this. Japan started the War and we finished it and them.

Why apologize for saving millions of Japanese lives?

IMHO, people who “judge” others, using their “feelings”, not facts, should be ashamed of their self-glorifying “preening”.

I was not a baby killer nor war criminal and I will not apologize to John Hanoi Kerry either. An apology for treason did not work for jane fonda. Life in Leavenworth would be a good start.

My father was in the battle of Okinawa and they would’ve been one of the groups used for the invasion. Men wept when they heard because they knew they were going to live.

Same here! Returned from Europe where he was with Patton’s Third Army, retrained in Kentucky and Nashville TN for Japan when the bombs fell. He was so relieved everyone then knew “it” was almost over! It was!

There are still nine months remaining in the Obama administration. There is still time for the United States to surrender to Japan.
