Thanks! Please keep working on your nephew. My husband and I moved to NC a little over 30 yrs ago from NJ.....we see more and more “Yankees” coming here every year.....all complaining about the same thing....high taxes up north. I have a cousin who lives in Az...she was a full blown hippie liberal up until I converted her 8 yrs ago. So, it can be done! Thanks for trying to convert your nephew...and please dont give up!

Tax the rich, feed the poor, 'til there are no rich no more

This is all the MORE reason why need fundamental tax reform. The reliance on progressive income taxation with its innumerable tax loopholes is ruining the US economy.

Maybe it's time to look at at least what Ted Cruz proposed, or go even further and support:

Many New York Yankees officially live in Florida (and have spring training there) so they only pay NY taxes on the games played there...

But....but....I thought the mean, evil rich people didn't pay their fair share of taxes.

$140,000,000.00 isn't his fair share.

He still has enough money to be able to afford to move.

My husband and I left NJ 30 yrs ago for NC.....my Mom & Dad left there a little over 10 yrs ago. If I am not mistaken, that exit tax law went into effect not long after my parents left NJ? We have run into others who have left the garden state who mentioned to us about NJ passing an “exit tax law”. I cant remember the percentage of tax they have to pay if they sell a house in NJ to move out of state...maybe 10%? Sorry, I dont know the law #.

In my area (east of Caldwell) there are plenty of homes for sale as well; unfortunately, people are too smart to buy them. As the kids leave the nest, many people just convert the single family homes (built when Americans had families) to multi-family homes just to raise money for their property tax bills; this puts more cars on the street (since so many tenants are adults), and when imported foreigners are the tenants it puts more kids in the school system.

My town in now working on a dog park for Americans to take their “kids”; it is north of where the foreigners’ kids play soccer, baseball, etc.

High taxes in one state driving wealth creators to a lower tax state?

It’s a microcosm of the national problem created by high corporate taxes in the USA.

Of course the liberal/RINO solution for lost wealth creators and lost tax revenues is to pass draconian laws to punish people who want to relocate and increase the tax rates to make up for the dwindling tax revenue.

Yep. We will get that border fence.

The instant the government feels the need to keep us in...

He is also sending a loud and clear message to us little people in NJ: The state needs money to pay for all the things I provided in the past, and they’re going to get that money from YOU. While our urban welfare reservations have seen layoffs, most of NJ’s public employee workforce isn’t shrinking to reflect the declining fortunes of the state; instead, we pretend importing non-contributing foreigners to fill the homes left by Americans will keep us viable...

Billionaire David Tepper has moved from New Jersey to Florida, and the loss of his income tax could leave a $140 million hole.

Oh well. Tax policy has consequences. Losing Tepper may breed copycats. What if his idea is embraced by the rest of NJ's super-rich. Same with New York. The Democrat party will lose Other Peoples' deep pockets and their "social justice" schemes will run out of money as well as voters.

The only downside would be for Florida; who wants a mass migration of New Jersey/New York subjects, they got enough of them already to make the place into... well, I'll just let it go at that. On the upside, we're talking about the people with the money, and money is always welcome.

11 Aspen looks interesting — at about maybe $300K. ;)

Jeff Vinik did the same thing. Big Hedge investor (Fidelity Magellan) in the northeast. Fled there in 2010 and moved to Tampa. Closed the hedge fund $9b later. Bought the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Tampa Bay Storm, plus is a minor owner of the Boston Red Sox. Gives away $50K every home game to a local deserving charity. And pays no Florida personal income taxes.

Bet they sure miss him up there.

At some point liberals have to realize that they run out of other people's money.

They will always find new sources. A recent road trip took me through NJ twice. Wonder if they'll hit me with a retroactive transit tax. Or an air consumption tax. Or an environmental impact fee because I deposited some trash in wastebaskets. The possibilities are endless.

As Margaret Thatcher famously said: the problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.

Or an air consumption tax.

Or perhaps a rain tax like Maryland has.

The scary thing is that it’d be even worse but for Christie. He’s vetoed the soak the rich tax increase.

Once he’s gone and a Dim is back in the NJ State House, it will get even worse.

(And I am NOT a Christie supporter by any means).

Yes, that does present a problem. The ‘Californication’ of the state so to speak.

I know some recently retired libs who have already left their blue state because of high taxes and am pretty sure they will bring their politics with them to Florida. Liberal contamination is indeed a concern.
