Posters, is all this shock & outrage that candidates, delegates and incumbents have to pay the party up front every election cycle feigned or were you just found in the garden under a cabbage leaf?

Politics is money and money wins elections. No win, no power or job. If you want to ask the party to run for a local office, the local county party first asks if you can finance or raise money in an amount up front to show you are serious and will work hard. The amount will be almost enough to run your campaign as the party rarely helps much for the little races. Second the party screens your background for any discoverable dirt that may later cause embarrassment for the party.

If you win, you have to raise money for the next campaign and to help the party stay in your corner next time. Same deal all the way up to the top. Your claim to fame or to party at the convention does not come free. The party system is your gateway into the political ladder and there is a money slot on the turnstile.
