When a political party picks one candidate over another, the party signals to the broader electorate what it represents. If the Republican Party nominates Ted Cruz instead of Donald Trump, it will represent one of the greatest practical and moral victories in the Republican Party’s noble history.
Cruz’s enormous victory in Wisconsin this week makes it more probable than not that Donald Trump falls short of the required 1,237 delegates – 50 percent plus one of the 2,472 total delegates to the convention – to cinch the nomination on the first ballot. Combined with savvy delegate recruitment and a mounting string of endorsements, Cruz is setting himself up as the most likely nominee in a contested convention.
While many Trump supporters might decry this outcome under the stated rules of the party as the “establishment” countermanding the voters, this broad theme oversimplifies. Both Trump and Cruz exist outside the “establishment." The more interesting question is what statement the GOP makes by picking the particular candidate Cruz over the particular candidate Trump.
If Cruz wrests the nomination from Trump with a renewed message of unity and opportunity, the party as a whole should rejoice and celebrate. Indeed, there are four reasons the party should be dancing inside at the prospect, because Cruz defeating Trump represents:

Cruz needs to win on his own merits and not because of someone else’s agenda/hatred for Donald Trump.

Folks, the US Constitution, like the bible is not about picking and choosing which parts you like, it is take it 1005 or you will have none of it.
Article Two, Section Two, subsection Five is clear, one must be a Natural Born Citizen to be President of these Untied States. Cruz does not qualify.

Cruz won’t see 900 delegates in the first vote. Far short of a plurality, much less a majority.
Cheerleading for the GOPe? You have stated that you’ve worked for the Cruz campaign - but once he is mathematically eliminated from first round competition, his continued efforts are nothing but working for his masters.

So Trump goes to the convention with around 1200 delegates,35 states and millions of more votes.
Then they give it to the guy in second place, using back room shenanigans and all should rejoice?
Why do people keep insisting that Ted Cruz is outside of the “establishment”? He clearly is not as his campaign has progressed and has joined in with them and added establishment personnel to his roster as well as the Wall St. cronies that are supporting him.
Cruz is no way an outsider at this point.
I like PJ Media but this is so disappointing coming from them.

Not likely at all.
I’ll give you 4 reasons why Republicans will rejoice.
1] More jobs will be traded to the rest of the world.
2] Middle class wages will continue to be stifled.
3] Another war or two will break out somewhere
4] Tax rates will drop on the 2%.
I support Cruz. If he can win the delegate race and go to the convention ahead of Trump, I will continue to support him.
But if Trump is within, say 50 delegates and Cruz is 300 behind that, and then somehow the GOPe comes together to try and take the nomination from Trump through procedural, politicking and deal making...I will not support that in the least.

I am a Cruz supporter, but that is funny, I must say.
Although I do find it interesting that the Trump supporters do appear to go out of their way to be nasty on this board towards Cruz for seemingly no reason other than to be... nasty.
