Trump adviser says Republicans won't have contested convention

Donald Trump's new top political strategist predicted on Friday the Republican presidential front-runner would amass the 1,237 delegates needed to clinch his party's nomination well before the Republican National Convention in July.

Veteran campaign tactician Paul Manafort was chosen by Trump on Thursday to oversee a fractious nomination process that many Republicans expect may not yield a clear winner before the convention.

Manafort said on CNN's "New Day" program that rival Ted Cruz, the U.S. senator from Texas, will not be able to dent Trump's delegate lead before California's June 7 primary.

"The reality is: Ted Cruz has seen his best day," Manafort said. "The reality is: this convention process will be over with sometime in June, probably June 7, and it'll be apparent to the world that Trump is over that 1,237 number."

"The reality is: Ted Cruz has seen his best day," Manafort said.

None of the next round of states is friendly territory for Ted Cruz

In modern election history, open/contested/brokered conventions are bad for a party. It would be best for the Republicans for Trump or Cruz to reach 1237 before the convention.

How soon do you think it will be before Manafort accuses Cruz of stealing Trumps delegates?

New, ‘improved’ Team Trump utterly messes up the delegate wrangling process in Washington State.

So, how has Paul Manafort demonstrated his keen delegate wrangling mojo? …Well, let’s put it this way.

Good: Team Trump sent out an email blast to loyal Trump
supporters encouraging them to go sign up to be potential Trump
delegates in Washington State. Yay!

Bad: Well, they mixed up the location a little, and sent that email blast to Trump supporters in Washington, DC. Boo!

TRUMP: …and the deadline to sign up for being a delegate in Washington State was two days ago. Dur!

I agree....The party will be splintered into nothingness with a brokered convention.

Cruz is devious. Kasich is a spoiler.

In the meantime....We have to be careful that we retain the Senate if we're going to get anything done.

We don't want to force Trump to use Executive Orders.

Yep, Teddy is gonna get a Bronx cheer....... Pthhhhbbbbbbtt!

‘Teddy who? Fuggedddaboudit!!!

The rest of the article :

“...Trump has been uncharacteristically quiet on social media after his double-digit loss to Cruz in the Wisconsin primary on Tuesday, which followed a series of missteps on the campaign trail including his statement, later recanted, advocating punishment for women who have illegal abortions.

In elevating Manafort, Trump said he would add more staff before the convention in an expansion of his campaign team beyond the close-knit group of advisers who have been at his side since he jumped into the presidential race last June.

“People that I know that want to get involved and wanted to before but didn’t have a way in,” Manafort said.

The next presidential nominating contests before the Nov. 8 election include a number in East Coast states seen as more fertile ground for the real estate tycoon, including in his native New York on April 19.

Manafort cited Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut and Maryland as states where Trump would do well.

“By the time we get to California the momentum is going be very clear and Ted Cruz’ path to victory is going to be in shambles,” he said.

Cruz, appearing on the CNN program earlier, said he had a clear path to 1,237 delegates.

“It’s difficult. We’ve got to win and we’ve got to win consistently,” Cruz said. “He’s right. He has to win,” Manafort said.

I have a hunch that Mr. Man the Fort has some aces up his sleeve that will soon be dropped to the media like DDT bombs on a flea factory.

And it will be soon.....

Trump would have to win 60+% of all the delegates left, and there is no freaking way he will do that!

Trump will be well short of 1237 at the convention.

When that happens he can thank himself for all the people he pissed off along the way.

Yes true Manafort is right.

Lets say for argument that Trump falls a little short of 1,237 say 20 candidates. Do we really think Cruz is going to prevent Trump from getting another 20 other delegates not to vote for Trump? LoL. And Cruz who will be around 600 delegates short of 1,237 is going to get the nom? Cruzers live in la la land.

“In the meantime....We have to be careful that we retain the Senate if we’re going to get anything done.”

Yes, and that is by no means a sure thing. The GOP has, I believe, double the RATs in seats that are up this time. And then you add to that the general dissatisfaction the GOP-led Senate has engendered, coupled with the desire to rid it of the RINOs.

Manafort knows that campaigns are allowed to cut individual deals with individual delegates.

The last time around they traded everything from plane tickets to college educations. Trump has 10 billion big ones that says he’s loaded for bear.

To become a delegate in Texas you have to run for it. You have to prove that you have been doing stuff for a long time to help the party. That also means people are going to check to see who you are supporting for president.

The Trump people I have run into generally have no clue as to how the whole system works. They seem to think they can just be made a delegate, but it takes work both way before the convention and during the convention.

Just remember what I said here when Trump's people begin to talk about how it all is being stolen from them.

Trump will be well short of 1237 at the convention.

Trump will get it. Trump will get around 150 delegates out of CA. When it comes to prognostications Cruzers are the worst. More dreaming really.

Trump would have to win 60+% of all the delegates left, and there is no freaking way he will do that!

Yeah he will. You know why Cruzer? Obviously not. I'll tell you why because since after March 15th, many of the rules have changed to states that are Winner-Take-All and Winner-Take-Most states. Plenty coming up soon like NY, DE, and MD to name a few.

I pretty much agree with Manaforte. After April 26th Cruz will still be hanging around like an unwanted cat but Trump will rightfully be calling for him and Ksick to get out. Cruz’s campaign should begin to crumble once he’s past the point of no return. Who wants to waste their vote?

Manafort needs a calculator.

18 States left.

Trump gets shutout this weekend in WY & CO.

16 States left. 5 of those are winner take all.
Cruz wins NE,MT, & SD. Trump wins NJ & DE.
Trump needs 68% of remaining to win.

11 states left.
PA with 71 delegates sends 54 of those uncommitted directly elected delegates. No telling how they will vote. Give Trump the 17 winner take all. Trump needs 73% of remaining to win.

10 states left.
4 states are proportional with low thresholds, RI,OR,WA,NM. Best Trump can do with those is take half.
Trump now needs 83% of the remaining 9 states, NY,CA,WV,IN,MD,CT, & NY.

I think he’ll be over 100 delegates short. There will be around 118 delegates uncommited on the first ballot, so it should make for an interesting convention.

That has got to be the single dumbest statement ever made on FR. If I had an award to give you I would. Wow. The frontrunner should quit and endorse the way behind 2nd place guy...HA!!! That is hilarious.
