Good call. We, of course, know from the Civil War that without an amendment slavery would have been re-instituted in some way in several southern states as statutory law was swept out.

It's funny you should mention that, because the 14th amendment is primarily responsible for much of our current misery and insanity.

That amendment which was meant to give citizenship to freed slaves, was so badly written that it has been used to ban prayer in schools, create a "right to abortion", authorize "gay marriage" and a whole host of other nonsensical ideas that point to it as the justifying authority.

The consequences of the civil war are still manifesting themselves.

I still think we’ll need the traditional marriage constitutional amendment, and soon.

The electorate that would have passed such an amendment lies back in the 20th century. After 30 years of pro-gay propaganda, modern Americans don't really understand the nature or scope of queer people.

Isn’t it amazing how the needle has swung on this issue. In 2004 Bush won on God, guns, and no gays.
