CNN’s Brian Stelter Looks Back at How the Media Got It So Wrong on Donald Trump

How exactly did the media get Donald Trump so wrong? Well, today, CNN’s Brian Stelter devoted the entirety of Reliable Sources to answering that very question.

And what better way to illustrate the collective failure of the punditocracy than by showing clips of people on CNN the day of Trump’s presidential announcement downplaying the likelihood that they’ll become president, which is exactly what Stelter did.

Remember, over many months the talk shifted from “Oh, Trump’s not gonna run” to “Oh, Trump’s not seriously staying in” to “Oh, Trump’s not gonna win the nomination” to, now, “Oh, crap, he’s probably going to be the nominee.”

Throughout the show, Stelter and various guests from different media outlets looked at how cable news, print, and online media all covered Trump and whether the very unfavorable coverage reflects a certain “snobbery” on the part of the press towards Trump’s voters.

The Atlantic‘s Molly Ball argued that one of the problems is that the press spends too much time talking to politicians or consultants instead of the actual voters looking at Trump and judging him.

The Daily Beast’s John Avlon, on the other hand, affirmed how proud he is of their Trump coverage because it falls in with their ethos of standing up to––as he put it––”bullies, bigots, and hypocrites.”

Trump surrogate Scottie Nell Hughes said his appeal is mostly a policy-based one because he’s tapped into people’s serious frustrations about jobs and the economy.

You can watch the first part of Stelter’s show above, via CNN.

This would be the same Big Media that endlessly promoted Obama as some kind of miracle-working super-genius?

That should have been the tip-off right there, that Big Media is clueless when it comes to evaluating character!

The media got it wrong because they think they control the whole thing- the thinking, the winners, the government. Politicians and their backers dictate to the media the media dictates to us.

However, as close to the brink as we are, we are still a constitutional republic and not a a banana republic

Mark levin is especially, and unusually, wrong.

Trumps supporters don’t want him, they want their country. And there’s no subliminal messaging in there.

Of course they get it wrong when judging character; they have so little of it themselves, they wouldn’t know it if it bit them.

Lot of this reflection going on among the media...
They didn’t recognize the appeal of his policies to moderates and conservatives (demographics sorely missing from their milieu).

Funny, to the media a ‘moderate’ is someone who will believe whatever they tell him.

Imagine that. Those clueless voters: actually basing their choice of a candidate upon policies.

It never occurred to them that we’re tired of metrosexuals.

It was all part of the plan to have a democrat win the GOP nomination.

Hopefully Cruz can stop him.

“showing clips of people on CNN the day of Trump’s presidential announcement downplaying the likelihood that they’ll become president,”

How many people on CNN were running for president at the time?

“It was all part of the plan to have a democrat win the GOP nomination.”

But the democrats in the republican party hate him.

“It never occurred to them that we’re tired of metrosexuals.”

Has it ever occurred to anyone that they know and they don’t care. They don’t care who wins as long as it’s someone
they put on the ballot. Hillary, Bernie, Dole, Romney,
McCain, Bush(All), Rubio, etc. The last time we actually
had a choice was Reagan and they are not going to let it
happen again. It’s how they have maintained a steady march
to socialism all these years.

I don’t think they know at all. I sat and switched channels thru the debates and primaries, and they are completely lost on why I vote Trump.
I tweeted them all to enlighten them, but I think they are just clueless.

They have no skills to watch people and read them.
They are only about putting on a show.

It really amazes me how stupid they are!!

LOL! They have the startled unbelieving outrage of some bully who has just been punched in the nose by someone half their size! “HOW DARE YOU DO THAT???” ...followed by the tucking of the tail and running home to momeeeee.

The better question is: Why did we get it wrong on Cruz?
