Trump on Wife Battle: Cruz Started It, He Knew About The Picture
Breitbart ^ | 2016-03-27 | Pam Key

...TRUMP: Totally. I had nothing to do with— the campaign had nothing to do with it. He’s got a problem with The National Enquirer. I have no control over The National Enquirer. I had no idea about the story. I just got it last night. I had nothing to do whatsoever with The National Enquirer, neither did the campaign. For him to say I had to do with it, try and put the shoe on the other foot is disgraceful. And by the way, He’s the one that started it. From what I hear, he and his campaign went out and bought the cover shoot. Melania did a cover shoot for GQ a very strong modeling picture. No big deal. But it was a cover shoot for GQ a big magazine. And it was, you know, fine and, if from what I hear, he was the one, or his campaign bought the rights and give it to the super PAC. That super PAC is friendly to Ted Cruz. He started it. I didn’t.

This is relevant in regards to the controversy over whether or not Jeff Roe secured the rights to the Melania pic from GQ and passed it on to the Make America Awesome PAC. MMA PAC had little or no money according to its filings so probably the Cruz Campaign ponied up the cash for the rights.

The last few days I have been trying to track down this information that first appeared on twitter. Not believing a random twitter post that Jeff Roe secured the rights to the pic I searched in vain with no luck as to being able to verify the information.

I wrote GQ, CondeNast, WrightMedia, Corey Lewandowski and Rodger Stone with the question. No answer from anyone yet. Though with Corey and Rodger it was through twitter and I imagine they don't have time to go through all their messages. As for the others--Its the Easter weekend so I would have to wait until next week to verify

But in the above Trump this morning alludes to the fact that the Cruz Campaign got the rights to the picture. No doubt Trump called the photographer who is reported consulting an attorney. From Hollywood reporter:

"I never gave any approval for this image to be used anywhere else but GQ in the U.K. It puts me in a very weird situation as I have to protect my intellectual property and the privacy of Melania Trump," the photographer says, adding that he's already talking to his attorney. "I don't want those pictures to be used in certain ways which are inappropriate." --Antoine Verglas Photographer

If Trump's allegation is correct, The Cruz Campaign secured the photo of Melania and illegally passed it to another PAC to be used in the manner it was used. BOOM! The Cruz Campaign lied and continues to lie...Lyin' Ted..

Cruz really should ditch the Bushies. I don’t think he will, but he could kill two birds with one stone. Get rid of people who ARE going to turn on him (just a matter of time), and blame those people for slimy behavior toward the spouse of his opponent.

He won’t

But he should.

Just saying.

(I’m a Trump supporter BTW)

This one time, I think Trump should move on and focus on real issues.

I don’t mean that he shouldn’t have responded. But now he said what he needed to say to clarify the situation and now it’s time for him to go back to focusing on issues important to the American people, as he has been doing.

I don’t think it was a problem to ‘get’ a copy of the picture, as it was available on the internet.

However, if we assume the photographer and GC were not paid for the ‘rights’ to USE the photo in a political AD, then Cruz’s PAC illegally used the photo and should be sued by GQ.

Yep.

Trump should move away from this as fast as he can.

It’s a black hole that has the potential suck the whole primary into oblivion.

Wonder what the legal penalties are for this? Whole lot of fines at least, I’d imagine.

Considering Jeff Roe from the Cruz campaign purchased the picture, BOOM! Conspiring with a PAC!

WRONG! Trump said "if from what I hear". That means he is just repeating the rumors spread about on the internet. I already told you I know for 1000% certainty that no one from the Cruz campaign obtained the rights for the picture/shoot from Wright Media. 1000% certainty! This is just Trump lying, when he could damn well verify that himself.

Honestly, there's no proof the Cruz camp bought the picture other than a tweet that came across the Twitter-verse.

Of course, there's no proof Trump had anything to do with the National Enquirer running the story, either.

I have a feeling tomorrow is going to be a real roller-coaster ride. We shall see.

Or, if as we’re told by some Cruzers, it’s forbidden for the PAC to cooperate with the campaign, then should there not be an investigation into why Jeff Roe, Cruz’s camapign manager, licensed the photo from GQ that was subsequently used in the ad paid for by the PAC?

It’s either illegal, a violation of the licencing contract, or it really really stinks. Maybe more than one of the above.

I agree with your assessment. He needs to go back and hit all the main issues he started with and begin adding the new ones. He had addressed the situation and time to move on. But you know, the press will continue to ask and ask and ask the question and you know Donald, he will answer, answer and answer...

Notice he declined to “spill the beans” about Heidi. Probably decided to not create any new controversy and let things simmer for awhile. Besides the Wife spat is over and Ted has other problems to consider...such as who’s sofa he is going to sleep on for the rest of the campaign...
