Health insurance premiums have increased faster than wages and inflation in recent years, rising an average of 28 percent from 2009 to 2014 despite the enactment of Obamacare, according to a report from Freedom Partners.
President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law on March 23, 2010, and Wednesday is the laws sixth anniversary.
The Obama administration expressed concern in 2009 about skyrocketing health care premiums in a report entitled, The Burden of Health Insurance Premium Increases on American Families. They were concerned that premiums had increased by 5.5 percent from 2008 to 2009.
However, from 2010 to 2011 in the first year after Obamacare was enacted, premiums increased by 9.4 percent.
In 2009, when the [Executive Office of the President] issued its report, states had seen premiums increase on average by 30 percent between 2004 and 2009, states the Freedom Partners report. But since 2009, health insurance premiums have continued to grow faster than wages in nearly every state, averaging a 28 percent increase from 2009 to 2014, resulting in a greater amount of disposable income being consumed by rising premiums.
According to the report, while premiums increased by 28 percent from 2009 to 2014, wages increased by only 7.8 percent. From 2004 to 2009 when premiums increased by 30 percent, wages increased by only 12.2 percent.

Working as intended.
Who could have seen that coming?
“Affordable Care Act”
Uh huh.
Does this mean I am NOT going to get my $2,500 savings?
+1
Go back 15 or 20 years and you would find that insurance premiums rose faster than wages just about every single year. This isn't new.
Yep, although good luck getting that point across.
Well, if you are a freeloader who doesn’t earn any wages and who was given healthcare for free under Obamacare, this really isn’t an issue for you.
Proof we need the labor department to set wages that employers must pay, that would fix EVERYTHING!
“VOTE YOURSELF A RAISE”
I know. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
We’ll be getting that $2500 check any day now.
“...despite the enactment of obamacare...”
No, it’s BECAUSE of the enactment of obamacare.
The government REQUIRES you to pay the healthcare bills of the obamabots.
Duh.
Yes but you see, when the minimum becomes $15 and other wages inflate to follow suit, all that money can go to pay for health insurance
My daughter turns 26 next month. She’s working three part time jobs and fully supporting herself. We’re trying to figure out what she should do about health coverage. I’m leaning heavily toward just having no insurance. Costs are far more than she can afford.
First year penalty is insignificant .
The second year is about double the first year .
The third year is a little more significant, and is aproxitmately re-doubled.
While ill-defind as "taxation" , it becomes more coercive each successive year; but I expect Presidential/Congressional intercession before too long
as more people seem to be dropping coverage due to expense than increasing the numbers who seek coverage.
