An effort by liberal groups to pressure Republicans to allow Senate consideration of President Barack Obamas Supreme Court nominee got off to a modest start Monday as small groups of demonstraters rallied outside lawmakers offices around the country. A bigger election-year battle ramped up as both sides brought their viewpoints to television, social media and supporters email inboxes.
Five days after Obama tabbed federal appeals court Judge Merrick Garland for the vacant seat, about 25 people appeared outside the Columbus, Ohio, office of GOP Sen. Rob Portman, who is backing Republican leaders insistence on awaiting the pick of whoever is elected president in November. Some carried signs saying #DoYourJob, a battle cry of Senate Democrats aimed at their GOP colleagues, and #FillTheSeat.
The idea that they need to wait until the people have spoken, well, the people already did speak, said Barbara Eakins, 70, an Ohio State University retiree. They spoke when they elected Obama to office twice.
Similar-sized crowds were observed at rallies in Austin, Texas; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Des Moines, Iowa, respectively targeting GOP Sens. John Cornyn, Ron Johnson, Pat Toomey and Charles Grassley.

Why not? Works everytime.
They spoke when a republican majority was elected!!
The 3rd finger is the only response to these liberal scum!
The college professor retiree mentioned in that article won’t acknowledge that, though.
Did Soros pay for the buses, signs and “manpower”?
Hey, Republican Senators; listen up! The stinky people at these rallies? Guess what? They aren’t going to vote for you. Let me repeat that:
THEY AREN’T GOING TO VOTE FOR YOU.
No matter what you do, you are not going to change their minds. They will not love you. Ever.
Stop kissing their posteriors. It’s degrading.
They are, predictably, putting pressure on the hand-wringing RINO’s to fold.
See, see the American people hate this obstructionist crap! < /S >
There was a group in Dothan waving their signs. It appeared to be only 6 or 7 people, all Black but they got TV coverage.
And how many of you scumbags have ever voted Republican for Senate and what’s the chance you will in the future? Yeah, that’s what I thought.
since obama had Scalia killed they should have to wait...but then reps have fewer principles than even the dems these days!
Not going to happen.
This is an election year, and politicians want to keep their jobs.
A one way ticket to home is to vote for a liberal activist Supreme Court justice.
No; the Uniparty is happy they are there to use as their next Kabuki Theater excuse to do what they always intended to do in the first place.
Not one usual citizen at these “rallies”. All attendees are paid professionals. Eff ‘em.
Still, the “GOP” senators are easily intimidated. Many should just switch parties and get it over with.
neither are we if the establishment steals the nomination from TRUMP! Already advised our two (worthless repub senators) and my HR rep, also a repub, that if this happens to TRUMP I nor anyone I can actively reach and talk to, will ever vote for them nor any repub again...actually we won’t be voting again by ballot if that happens...this country will have degraded to voting with lead! L & L!!
25 people AP Pukes.
They’re intimidated (or annoyed) by conservatives who want them to keep their promises and do the job they were elected to do.
