“Probably not, but there were enough moderate or conservative Democrats and enough moderate or liberal Republicans in Washington that the conflict between the two parties was more muffled than it is today.”

Yeah, Lowell Weicker and Bob Packwood were such a pleasure to have in the GOP. The sniping was more muted because there was no internet and no social media.

“Really? They voted for him.”

I guess you missed the primary.

“If you’ve sniped at other Republicans down through the years, you’ve done what you reproach the ‘80s Establishment for — probably more — so what’s the problem?”

My, aren’t you the superior specimen. I see the infghting for what it is, I don’t whine about it. You’ll need to try your little game on someone else.

They got along with each other after the cameras were off,

Of course they did, they were democrats and democrats in republican clothing.

It was hard to sift out a dozen Conservatives in the lot.

Sam Houston wasn’t adored either.

Not liked by the Texanicans, not liked by the Mexicans and not liked by the USA (except maybe Jackson with whom he butted heads with and was sent on a Fools Errand)

His Legacy is cemented in History

Yeah, Lowell Weicker and Bob Packwood were such a pleasure to have in the GOP.

So it's better to throw those states and Congress to the Democrats?

I guess you missed the primary.

A lot of people voted against Reagan in the early primaries. In the last primaries, after the other candidates dropped out, Reagan did get over 80% of the vote.

You said the party Establishment were solidly against him and never warmed to him. They weren't. They did.

I see the infghting for what it is, I don’t whine about it.

I see party infighting for what it is -- an inevitable part of the two party system that doesn't mean that party faction are permanently irreconcilable or locked in permanent conflict and hatred. Sometimes you fight. Then you reconcile.

You're the one who was crying about it, "Boo-hoo, they never loved my Reagan like I did. Wa-ah!" Well, no. They were too busy working with him -- getting things done -- to idolize him or to vilify him. Most of Reagan's cabinet was "Establishment."
