Is Sheldon Adelson signaling support for Trump?
timesofisrael.com ^ | Joshua Davidovich

In hindsight, it was probably inevitable. After months in which it kept a fairly uncharacteristic nuanced distance from the Republican race for the presidential nomination, Israel Hayom, the free tabloid owned by Republican donor Sheldon Adelson and considered by many to be a mouthpiece for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has come out and all but endorsed Donald Trump on its front page.

Oh sure, the words “Trump isn’t afraid to say ‘Islamic terror’” emblazoned across its front page belong to former New York mayor and current Trump mouthpiece Rudy Giuliani, but a paper doesn’t play a quote like that without showing at least a modicum of tacit support.

And if Israel Hayom has gotten anything down pat, it’s how to loudly and clearly state where it stands by putting its opinions in other people’s mouths and highlighting what they say.

The quasi-endorsement of Trump would be noteworthy if it were just made by Israel’s most-read paper. But the fact that the paper is seen as a platform for both GOP mega-donor Sheldon Adelson and Israel’s prime minister raises questions about whether Monday’s front page signals that they have made (likely-reluctant) peace with backing Trump.

It is worth noting that Adelson claims he does not exercise editorial control over Israel Hayom, which is technically owned by a relative, and Netanyahu has no formal relationship with the paper.

Rudy too. That made me feel a lot better.

I know many here don’t like him, but he kicked butt as mayor, crushed crime, told minorities to get jobs to pay for college, closed stripped joints in family neighborhoods and more.

in NYC, that’s AS GOOD as you’re going to get for mayor.

and he was the ONLY one that made us feel like there was hope during and after 9/11.

went to EVERY fireman’s funeral even with prostate cancer.

nobody wants to throw good money down a hole. At least if he donates to Trump now, when he becomes President, Adelson can have some sort of standing.

“Prime Minister Netanyahu rejects Donald Trump’s recent remarks about Muslims,” the statement said.

“The State of Israel respects all religions and strictly guarantees the rights of all its citizens.”

Strictly guarantees the rights of all its CITIZENS!

These aren't citizens that Obama is importing. And then there is the issue of protecting actual citizens from the imports.

The referenced article below. It's a nice article, but it's really about Rudy Giuliani. It's a big stretch to equivocate this with an Adelson, who claims to have no editorial role, endorsement. Not to suggest that couldn't happen from Adelson, or even Giuliani.

Giuliani to Israel Hayom: Trump not afraid to say 'Islamic terrorism'

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani tells Israel Hayom: Donald Trump is an intelligent man with strong opinions • Giuliani on Hillary Clinton: She never succeeded in anything. Her record as secretary of state was one of the worst in history.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has many critics, including his rival candidates, the Republican establishment and the media. But at the same time, he also has many supporters, including a strong plurality of voters in the Republican primaries and former Republican presidential candidates Chris Christie and Ben Carson. And Trump also has the support of an old friend, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

The legendary Giuliani -- who cleaned up crime in the Big Apple and guided the city during the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks -- believes Trump is the right man at the right time to succeed Barack Obama as president next January.

I do Like Rudy! Just never understood his road to the WH once he began his journey. He does a great job and a great American (to quote Hannity)

Trump remains ‘neutral’ in the Mid East conflict (to the chagrin of many pro-Israel’s) The stance he chooses in this way of thinking makes sense. Being an Umpire begins with a ‘neutral’ position. Perhaps Bibi understands this.
my two cents

I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Trump’s vegas business nemesis Steve Wynn attended Trump’s NV victory speech. Trump acknowledged Wynn during the speech.

Wynn showed his support for Trump.

It was just a matter of time for the other nemesis — Adelson — to follow suit.

“I know many here don’t like him”

I’ve ALWAYS liked Rudy. A lot. Maybe just not for President. In retrospect, he couldn’t have been any worse than Romney, now could he?

Trump has been returning large proffered “donations”.

I hope he runs for mayor again. but he’s got to be up there now, I guess.
