It’s all the protesters that can’t pay their fines.

LOL!

Yup.

It amounts to a form of debtors’ prison.

In Europe, people used to be jailed because they couldn’t pay their debts.

If someone has the means to pay a fine, hold them accountable but don’t lock up someone can’t come with the fine.

There’s a difference between justice and sadism.

Remember, that jail space is supposed to be utilized for the most serious offenses and locking up poor people only leaves taxpayers on the hook for money that’s not going to cover the costs of locking them up in the first place.

We need perspective here people and make sure those who are sent to jail deserve to be there.

Garnish their welfare checks and make their EBT cards only good for basic foods and only 2500 calories per day.

Debtor's prison was screwed up because it negated any chance of the debtor paying the debts. This could be construed as having the same rationale except that it will not force those who are so "pardoned" to do anything different. Instead of jailing them, give them pink overalls and put them to work for at least 6 hours a day (Obama's "full time" employment).

People who have nothing don’t owe income tax.

Translation, “minorities shouldn’t have to pay fines”.

Yup. We are moving to have multiple sets of laws in this country for different constituencies.

“And do you really want to have cops use scarce jail space to lock up people who are no real threat to society?”

No threat to society. Interesting perspective. How about these people do community service instead? Every 25 dollars not paid is one day of community service.

the woman they sent to prison (prison, mind you, not jail) because her teenage son repeatedly skipped school
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Government teachers and principals want to be thought of as reincarnated Mother Teresas.

Remember.

Behind every government school worker stand armed police, courts, and threats of prison. Real bullets in those guns on the hip.

Do you have a link to the story about the mother who was killed in prison and the truancy incident. I did a Google but didn't find it. Any info on the state or county?

(Above.) This is not the same story but is another death by truancy.

Below is a search on the topic which was stunning because I had no idea how widespread the issue was.

On one hand, people think of debtors prison as gone with the Victorian age.

On the other hand, we now feed, shelter, clothe and provide a myriad of goodies to approximately a third of our population as long as they, in return, don’t accumulate any assets that would demonstrate an ability to pay.

Very sad story.

The truth is that it is unknown if government schooling teaches anything academic at all. Studies have **never** been done to show where children learn. Is it in the home or in the class? This has **never** been tested or investigated! NEVER!

I point this out because it is my observation that academically successful homeschoolers and institutionally schooled children have very similar home environments and spend the same amount of time studying in their HOMES!

If government schooling were actually effective they would teach kids regardless of the support given in the home.

Fundamentally, taxpayers pay up to $25,000 / year/child on government schooling that have NEVER been tested and proven effective. It is merely assumed.

In a large part of the South the justice system has been turned into a for-profit industry

“The Justice Department is discouraging state court systems from jailing defendants who fail to pay fines or fees, warning against practices that it says run afoul of the Constitution and erode community trust.”....

How brilliant, the “Just Us” dept., those who enforce the laws are suggesting to ignore said laws, the same way odumbo ignores many of our laws. Why do we even need laws (and particularly lawyers) if those ass hats “pick and choose” which laws they deem needed? The nation NEEDS TRUMP and badly.
