Back doors, skeleton keys, just make it happen, nerds
SXSW Amid the row between Apple and the FBI over the unlocking of a mass murderer's iPhone, President Barack Obama has told the tech world to suck it up and do what the Feds want.
Speaking today at hipster-circle-jerk SXSW in Austin, Texas, the United States' Commander in Chief said phones and computers cannot be unbreakable "black boxes," and that an "absolutist" view on encryption won't fly with the laws and courts of the land.

Whatever Feds have as a backdoor a theif will enter through, tech proverb.
Maybe we should all renounce encryption. Lets start with our government. If they don’t need it maybe the rest of us don’t either. /sarc
I reserve the right to freedom.
The battle cry is come and take it coppers.
Funny thing is you can keep your freedom by just not submitting
Lets all show our cards lol
The ‘right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects’ was such a silly notion. It’s good that such an antiquated concept be eliminated.
The president is heading to Texas on Friday to kick off the annual South by Southwest interactive, film, and music conference in Austin. But the trip, a first for a sitting U.S. president, means he wont be in California for Nancy Reagans funeral. And the news has some pretty upset: ...
In this day and age, I think encryption should be protected by the second amendment.
It is key protection of a free people.
Good point. I suggest we pass a law requiring every encryption key used in any system located in, or controlled by a United States citizen, including those used by our government have a maximum length of 16 bits. That way nobody has to waste so much time and effort to read encrypted material.
Think off all the energy that will be saved at intelligence agencies around the world, it will help stop global warming.
Think of the money that can be saved by skipping encryption in our military systems, and in our banking systems. No more need for complex code, just a simple 16 bit key.
After all, who needs secure communications anyway?
Hahaha GTFOOOOO
Obama and his Admin screwed up the San Bernardino case so bad and now they think they can blame it on Apple
If you have a phone, and I can’t get the data, then it must holds some criminal information (or else you wouldn’t hide it).
Therefore, I will charge you with RICO, terrorism, threats against the POS (no TU), supporting Bundy, and about 32 GB of other charges.
And if you do show me the data and explicit criminal evidence is not there, you will be charged with lying to the Feds, for making me think it was.
/s today is news tomorrow..
Crazy aint it?
bad habit
While some of it was a bit of a stretch, I saw nothing in it that this administration would not at least float trial balloons for.
And Trump agrees with Obama on this one. Says government should "force" Apple to cooperate and called on his followers to boycott Apple.
“You can’t take an absolutist view on this”, says the pResident.
Actually, yes, we can. How about:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
Code IS Speech. “Bernstein v. Department of Justice” settled that.
So. . . .suck it, Obama. . .
“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”
The protection only extends against unreasonable searches.
You have no right to buy an encryption based product.
They still need a warrant and probable cause.
“The Congress shall have Power...To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes;”
Yes, Congress can block the US importation of any product made by any company making an unbreakable encryption phone or a key component of one. Congress can basically block Apple from selling products or services in the USA unless it makes its phones searchable by law enforcement.
