Wisconsin Supreme Court justice attacked for past pro-life writings

Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Rebecca Bradley is under fire for political writings she penned for the Marquette Tribunal as a student in 1992, including columns articulating strong pro-life views.

Governor Scott Walker appointed Bradley to the state’s high court in October to fill a vacancy, and she is currently running for election to a full term. As a student at Marquette University, she described abortion as a “similar slaughter” to past injustices such as slavery and the Nazi Holocaust.

“Rights should extend into the womb” because human life has been conclusively established as beginning at fertilization, Bradley wrote. “A life is being extinguished and no man or woman has the right to take the life of another.”

Critics have alleged that the columns suggest she is too extreme to serve as an impartial jurist. She has apologized for other writings discussing AIDS in harsh terms, but not her abortion writings. Spokeswoman Madison Wiberg responded to questions about them with a statement declaring that Bradley “believes it is the role of the legislature to make the law and the role of a justice to apply it,” and that it would be “improper” to comment on them “due to the potential for the issue to come in front of the state Supreme Court.”

More recently, in 2006 Bradley wrote a column defending the conscience rights of pharmacists who refuse to fill prescriptions for abortifacients.

LOL!
Yes, "scandalous" by today's standards of calling evil good, and good evil...

Yes, the local Milwaukee rag attacked her the other day for comments she made on Aids when she was a STUDENT. We care about what she thinks NOW. They are so in the tank for Kloppenberg that it’s not funny.

“Rights should extend into the womb” because human life has been conclusively established as beginning at fertilization, Bradley wrote.
“A life is being extinguished and no man or woman has the right to take the life of another.”

Bradley used science and law, respectively. The two tools used by ‘progressives’ when they object to a moral argument against abortion. The ‘pro choice’ zealots are blind to hypocrisy and irony (as well as linear logic and critical thinking)I say we need more people like Bradley and less like _________________ fill in the blank yourself...

Well if she’s under fire, she should shoot back and so should her supporters.

This is more the model of how one achieves support once we can’t take Christian or “pro life” views for granted. We have to drill down to whatever moral virtues ARE still accepted.

Is this Bradley any relation to Ann Walsh Bradley?

Nevermind, found a reference -- Ann Walsh Bradley and Rebecca Bradley are not related.

Heaven forbid that rights extend into the womb when Planned Parenthood’s main agenda is in ridding the human gene pool of the genetically unfit. Moreover, if the genetically unfit cannot be aborted the much sought after and highly lucrative brain, liver, heart, skin, and other body parts made available for “scientific” research will no longer be available. It’s a non-issue...even though that has been all they talked about on talk radio for the last couple days. She made comments in college. Her actions since have proven that she is not homophobic, including attending aids fundraisers. Many gays have spoken out in her defense. Like I said, non issue.

Yeah, so what? Her liberal opponent Kloppenberg is pro death (pro abortion) so she’s a little partial. Klopp’s husband, a UW professor, has a poster of Karl Marx hanging in his office. That ought to scare you, unless you live in Madison.

I heard Rebecca Bradley speak last night. She is most impressive. And she’s angry at the smear campaign that Kloppenburg and the Milwaukee Urinal is ru;nning against her. Everybody in Wisconsin should vote for Bradley on April 5, or before if you vote early. If you are not registered, you can register at the polls.

She was attacked for writings she made 24 years ago when she was a STUDENT — writings that probably nearly everyone on this foruom would agree with. And yesterday the newspaper told lies about her and her ex-husband that her ex- husband said were lies.

I agree with what you say and would like to add-
If a person kills a pregnant woman; the perp is usually charged with the homicide of both mother and the unborn child.
And in doing so, the courts already consider the unborn child as a “life” that was murdered.

My local newspaper (the La Crosse Tribune) has turned the Bradley coverage into a mini-series.

They publish a hit piece and leave it up on their website for days. Then they publish follow up pieces to talk about the reaction to the original piece. Then they publish the next propaganda piece.

They are “fellow travelers” with the folks that publish the Wisconsin State Journal and the Capital Times (same corporate parent: Lee Enterprises).
