Utah: Bill requiring anesthesia for babies during abortion passes Senate

On Monday, the Utah Senate voted 19-5 in favor of legislation that would require doctors to administer anesthesia to babies during an abortion. The bill applies to abortions carried out any time after 20 weeks of gestation.

Sen. Curt Bramble, the bill’s sponsor, explains…

This will require that if we are going to take the life of an unborn child … then anesthesia would be required to protect the child from the infliction of pain at the time their life is forfeit.

Bramble referred to abortion as a “death sentence” and says his legislation will help protect unborn babies.

“If we could prohibit all abortions except in the rarest of circumstances, if we could overturn Roe V. Wade, I would be a proud sponsor of that bill,” said Bramble, adding that the least the state could do is prevent the baby from feeling pain during an abortion.

In a hearing for the bill, Maryann Christensen, executive director of Utah Eagle Forum, testified that amid “the murder of our offspring and the despicable practice” of abortion, “the very least we can do is mitigate the baby’s pain.”

Live Action recently launched a website featuring a video series narrated by Dr. Anthony Levatino, a former abortionist who performed more than 1200 abortions. In one of the videos, Dr. Levatino describes a second trimester D&E abortion, which is the type of abortion that would typically be performed on a preborn child between 15 and 26 weeks gestation – six weeks past the start of the Utah bill’s anesthesia requirement:

Well you know, they can no longer deny the baby can feel pain and that is it in fact a baby.

This is an unconscionable violation of a woman’s right to her doctor’s privacy with himself. Parasitic little blobs of tissue don’t deserve the humane treatment accorded to vicious killers of already born adults who can be seen and have victim-families.

Well that’s nice of them.

They might as well give the poor kid a blindfold and a cigarette too.

It is brilliant .

Will make it harder to do abortions in the short run and make people think in the long run.

Powerful statement, I hope this bill becomes law.

Can’t do it. It might slow the fetus’ development.

If it’s “human enough” to feel pain when someone kills it, doesn’t it even enter the minds of these idiots that, perhaps, killing it is WRONG to begin with?

This is just ghastly.

Utterly disgusting. God is not mocked; everyone involved with this disgrace will be held accountable.

I’m a little haywire today, but reading this set me in tears. I don’t understand how you can be pro-abortion. I just don’t.

Exactly. Doesn't this effectively refute the abortionists' credo that a fetus is just a lump of tissue?

But now they would have everyone else believe that it is, in fact, a living feeling human being.

If that is the case they are, as has been repeatedly stated, murderers.

It is brilliant .

It is brilliant. If you can not outlaw abortion (because they found it in the Constitution somewhere), then you can pass laws that treats the doomed baby as a human being. Anything that shows the mother that the baby is a human that feels and responds to pain is a great. All 50 states needs this legislation introduced.

How about administering a pain agent to the mother and the medical professionals involved.

This pain agent would be so brutal they would wish for their own abortion.

Yes, very brilliant.
And does it taint the baby tissue rendering it unsellable?

Direct action tactics , blocking abortion clinics in the 80s did not get very far.

This is more effective.
