Pennsylvania governor raising minimum wage for state workers

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf raised the minimum wage by nearly $3 an hour, to $10.15, for state government employees and workers on jobs contracted by the state in an executive order he signed Monday.

The Democrat’s move establishing the new wage minimum comes a year into his term, as a crippling budget gridlock with Pennsylvania’s Republican-controlled Legislature has frozen the Capitol building.

Wolf’s action will affect a few hundred state employees, mostly part-time clerical and janitorial workers who make somewhere between $8.77 to $10.06 an hour, according to union officials.

It also will affect a narrow set of state contracts — potentially 109 vendors that provide janitorial, landscaping, delivery and food preparation services — that does not include hospitals, nursing care or state universities, administration officials said. The overall cost to the state and its contractors was projected at just above $4 million. …

Buying votes with other people's money Tom?

As a Democrat I really don't think you need to do that. State employees are pretty much in your pocket already.

I’d imagine Sanders is not pleased with this increase to $10.15 an hour. I’m sure he’d like the hourly rate to be $24.15 an hour.

I was a state employee for 15 years and never came close to voting for a Democrat.

No offence intended.

I was speaking in general.

My nephew is a state employee (Masters in social work) and he is a flaming Democrat Union Liberal.

He defriended me on Facebook because I posted too many conservative articles and comments.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Likewise, I was a union member (UAW) for 30 plus years and never came close to voting for a democrat.

People do have their preconceived notions though and by gollies, that’s that!

I was a security policeman at an Air Guard base and then promoted to a career counselor for veterans at the unemployment office.

I was in AFSCME because I believed that if someone is negotiating for you you need to belong to that organization.

Same with my spouse. But you’ve gotta admit, fellow FREEPers, you were the exception.

At my two workplaces, due to their nature (the Air Guard and veterans) we were mostly conservative but in the bigger picture there are a lot of liberals and moderates in state government, of course. One of our social workers at the unemployment office had clothes hangers with the message “This is not a tool for abortions” or something like that. We went to management and had them removed as a political statement the minute we first saw them.

Jersey City NJ just raised the wages for city workers to $15/hour; taxpayers ARE getting fleeced. On top of that, these jobs are basically closed to white men; they are just expected to fund them with their taxes.

This guy thinks he’s 0bama-lite. We still don’t have a budget for last year and he puts out an even more ridiculous one for this year...boatloads of tax increases. I’m waiting for the recall election.

Wolf said he was acting now because the change in state law that he had hoped for has not happened.

I guess it's good to be king.

Pennsylvania law allows the governor to do this?

Maybe they do; I see them (young ones) in no rush to commit to a job at all. Now they breed golden ticket welfare bastards and smoke pot.
