Steele, who is a former Dane County sheriff's deputy, was tried in the deaths of his wife, Ashley Steele, and sister-in-law, Kacee Tollefsbol. His attorney argued that a neurological disorder -- Lou Gehrig's disease, also called amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS -- was the foundation of his not guilty defense. What could go wrong?
Too bad, so sad. I’m sorry that he has a fatal disease. He still should be incarcerated for his dasterdly deeds. This judge should be impeached. Nobody is giving his wife and sister-in-law time off from their eternal sleep! For the information of those on this list who are not from Wisconsin, Menddota is theState hospital for the criminally insane.
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
If he really has ALS, the judge could be saving the taxpayers some serious money. Let him die at his own expense.
The story was poorly written. They talk about a trial, but don’t give the outcome. Digging around, it appears that the idiots on the jury were bamboozled into finding him not guilty by reason of insanity. Since he wasn’t really insane, you can’t hold him in a mental institution because the jury was stupid.
Blame the jurors, not the judge for this mess.
I remember reading about the sister,, I believe, calling 911 and telling them she was dying and who did it. It was so very, very sad. It’s makes me want to cry to think about it.
The whole affair contributes to the public’s lack of confidence in the powers that be.
In addition to the jury, we probably ought to cast some blame on the ‘experts’ used by the defense. It would have been their bought and paid for testimony that got him off.
The judge should have probably made the point by making the jury stay in the jury box and cut the guy loose after trial so that at least some of the jurors might have realized what they had done.
The judge is saving the tax payers a boat load of money.
My Mom had ALS and her medical expenses were through the roof and that was 20 years ago.
