It is hard to fight stupidity but when it comes from the premier conservative radio talk show host is it really stupidity or deception?
So here we go again another example of Rush defending his buds at Apple. He said iPhones could never be built in the USA. On the surface my reaction was what: is there a force field keeping Apple from building a factory in the USA? Joking aside his hobnobbing friends have brain washed him into believing the Free Traitor lie.
Here is the actual on air whopper: and I paraphrase; If Apple were to build iPhones in the USA instead of costing $190 dollars they would cost $2,500 dollars because of the difference in labor. If you take him at his word then you are part of the problem. You've bought the Free Trade lie.
So don't get me wrong I am not saying iPhones wouldn't cost marginally more if made in the USA but would they would 4 times as much?
In case you wanted to know the truth:
Labor per iPhone is almost the smallest cost item per phone that there is.
I would guess the total man hours to make an iPhone is less that 2 man hours. Heck a mid size sedan only takes 30 man hours to make.
Asymco analyst Horace Dediu used the "Nightline" report to estimate that Apple pays labor costs of between $12.50 and $30 for every iPhone it makes, which represents just 2-5% of the iPhone's sale price.
Ok let's multiple labor by factor of 10 assuming labor is 10 times more expensive in the USA ( I doubt that but lets go with that ).
So if Asian labor is $12.50 per phone then ten times that is $125.50 per hypothetical US made iPhone. Now tell us Mr. Limbaugh how do you get to $2,500 per iPhone retail?
Listened to him for about half an hour today and turned him off. He has to be on the drugs again. He too is losing it.
Boo hoo, radical left wing fabricator alert. Go fabricate something you can sell.
Yes he is. I have been listening for a long time and he still occasionally has good shows but this political season is unmasking a lot of the establishment.
People who castigate free trade advocate, by default, for managed trade. If they can’t see the failure of government to manage anything without graft and incompetence, they are fodder for democrat recruitment.
“Asymco analyst Horace Dediu used the “Nightline” report to estimate that Apple pays labor costs of between $12.50 and $30 for every iPhone it makes, which represents just 2-5% of the iPhone’s sale price.”
Rush need to do better research.
By his analysis, the U.S. made Mac Pro should cost $40,000.
It’s not cheap, but it’s not that expensive.
And Donald can FORCE Apple to manufacture in the U.S. via huge tariffs.....
Bye Einstein....
I was wondering the same thing.
Limbaugh is spokesman Numero Uno(a little Spanish lingo there for you “Rio Lindans” out there)for the GOPe/Cheap Labor Express.
Oh and BTW. “Rio Linda” is Spanish for “River of Suckers.”
Your *OPINION* of Rush’s statements is hardly news.
And labeling Rush as source versus admitting to your vanity?
I wonder if Rush would feel the same way if he were in a profession that could easily be outsourced. I think not.
It’s easy to overlook the problems of the peasants when you live in a castle.
And no, that’s not radical talk. It’s just a simple fact.
Rush treats his audience like they are stupid and can’t research the bogus on air claims.
Do the math. The only way iPhones could be made in the US is if it was 95% robotic assembly. No jobs there.
Would they still source all the parts from china and just assemble them here? Or would domestically manufactured parts also increase thr price?
Rush GOPe
“””Yeah, well, living on a gated island in Florida and flitting around the world on your corporate jet will tend to do that to you.
That’s not a slam at Rush. It just does. “””””
Sounds like Trump.
